Don't worry too much about it. Most places don't treat interns seriously or take them in at all before their penultimate year. And everyone knows that if someone's interning at a good place in their second year, it's only because of their connections. Neither do they get work, nor are they assessed for it. Weird situation for everyone. Get to work when the time comes, which is mainly in your fourth and fifth year. Till then, focus on getting your grades up this year.
I understand that internships are a game of connections to a very great extent. But how do you get those in the first place! I had built some conversation on LinkedIn with an associate of a very decent firm, who had previously judged my moot. She later helped me with a different moot and an article review. But the moment I asked for a referral, BAM GHOSTED! This was the closest connection I have had with anyone from a firm.
My texts to other partners and senior associates have met a similar fate. I understand that all of this is very normal, but if my texts are not working, my emails are not working, my calls to HR are not working, me attaching a writing sample in my internship applications ain't working, my follow-up mails are not working, then what exact choice am I left with? I am not saying I have the best CV, as my scores are really poor. But my extracurriculars are better than most of my batchmates. They continue to get their shiny internships while I am left spectating! Kindly help!
