I am at a crossroads of sorts and need some help from this community to decide what next steps I should take. Some context: I am from a T-1 college and had previously done internships with law firms across three practice areas, with m&a being one of those. Unfortunately, day z didn't pan out well for me despite have decent grades and profile and I could not get any converts. Now long after the hiring has closed for 2026, I have managed to get an internship (just an internship, with the promise that if I do well they would consider me for an assessment) at a T-2 firm in their IP practice. The problem is this is not where my heart is at (I had some IP related internships and hence got a shortlist), and although the internship would look great on my CV, I don't see myself doing IP long term at all. Unfortunately, none of the m&a teams are offering assessments for the batch of 2026. I am stuck in hard and rock place mentally and just a depressive state, even though this internship is my only decent shot at getting employed. My only concern is: My CV looks so scattered that I come across as someone who does not know what they want. What do I do? Should I forego this internship, or do it anyway and keep applying to corp places? ( But none of these places are hiring, or even offering assessments including the boutiques). Alternatively, if people have leads for corp and m&a boutiques, I would be very happy to pursue those too. Please help a kid out!
