I've gotten a rank good enough to secure both colleges (in vacancies) and I am confused about which college to choose. I am based in Mumbai, and don't have any qualms about staying away from home. That being said, I am confused mostly because of the advantage of location that MNLU provides (yes I know the infra is lacking and soon the college will be a little farther to the centre of the city) and the advantage of a strong alumni base and reputation that NLIU Bhopal has. I am going to Law School with an open mind and have not decided between Corp/Lit. Would love to hear the thoughts of this community on my dilemma.

NLIU bhopal is on a downfall. Placements are also going down.

In mumbai you can intern at mostly every law frim's office and get a PPO + litigation game is strong in mumbai as well just that its no delhi.
Alumni base of NLIU bhopal did not come to help it last year like it did in NLS/NALSAR/NUJS.

5 years back it would have been NLIU bhopal, now its MNLU mumbai. After 5 years NLIU will go from T1.5 to T2. MNLU Mumbai will go from T2 to atleast T1.5

Very easy to say this when you have no idea about NLIU itself.
In my initial year at NLIU, I can honestly say I wasn't very happy with it and mainly because of comments like this that serve no constructive purpose, other than dragging NLIU's name in the mud.

But, in my second year onwards, I truly realised how good NLIU is. They provide a platform for almost anything - Sporting and Moots are reimbursed (compare this to other T1s such as NLSIU or GNLU that barely provide any funding + alumni at NLIU fund almost anything for their juniors), arguably has the most number of active centre's and cells amongst all the NLU's which are adequately backed and financed by the administration, their outreach is also increasing (even a podcast has been started), a beautiful campus and campus life is great as well, many complain about accommodation (but then take a look at MNLU itself, or NLSIU, GNLU, NUJS, their accommodation is 10x worse), the internship opportunities continue to flow in with tier 1s regularly providing batch internships or through courses at NLIU (trust me being a student at NLIU gives you an advantage at these courses and its very easy for an internship), it regularly host events such as the SBA Law Conclave which hosts supreme court judges and other eminent legal individuals, placements are also decent (contrary to what the trailing message says, the last year was an anomaly and most T1s did not enjoy great placements as such - Nalsar 12?).
Please think twice before you drag NLIU in the mud. It is a great college and will continue on an upward path.

Theres no denying the past, but that doesn't mean that the student community (Which runs the college and grants you all the freedom you need) has not worked tirelessly to rectify and fix past issues. And its a joke that you think it would fall below MNLU Mumbai which neither has a campus or placements until now.

No one has to drag NLIU into the mud, it’s already dirty. NLIU’s PCC brought how many ppos last year….even this year? The institution is filled with bootlicking of seniors….where true merit has been overlooked by biased behaviour. Majority of good students from NLIU are not getting placed, and the mooting culture is also slowly dying. Let’s not start with publications now, lol.

You cite last years placements as the benchmark, then you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. The student body has taken active efforts to fix the errors of the past. But of course, students like you who drag their own institution through the mud, then complain about the reputation of the college truly surprise me.
It seems like people like you can only complain and just never have a positive outlook. Getting a PPO is not solely on the college, its individual driven and if you can't do that, then don't blame the institution. Also fyi I put GNLU below NLIU, not that it mattered.
And I mean yes, campus life would not matter to someone who stays in their room 24/7 and does not explore and enjoy life (Other than their position in the rat race). But to someone who does enjoy other elements of life and not just a job at the end of their 5 years, a campus life and decent accommodation would matter.

Next time you say people who don't make coherent points are the reason for the downfall, you should first present some coherent points. VAC schemes are also purely individual driven, there are students from RML who have gotten it, RGNUL, this is not incumbent on the college. All you have done is prove my point that the college does provide several opportunities (frankly more than most NLUs) and the students are not aptly utilizing it.

The only point that i may agree with is yes, ragging exists and it should end in all forms. But it has largely dwindled in recent years and the senior-junior culture continues to play a vital role in facilitating a lot of things. Alumni and even your direct seniors when you enter can help you with internships, jobs, and various other opportunities. Open your eyes, law is not just a corporate placement, its much more.

Easily NLIU Bhopal. It is a tier 1 and has been underrated for the past few years as well. It easily hosts the most number of prestigious events in an academic year, and almost all NLU's regularly participate in them. Students continue to do well and the seniors are friendly as well (albeit, there may always be a few bad apples here and there).

The only issue I may flag is their lack of PR, essentially that most people outside of the university are not aware that NLIU actually does so much. Talking to my fellow peers from other colleges made me realize we have so many opportunities that you usually don't find elsewhere. Just imagine having an exchange program at Switzerland, a picturesque campus (especially close to a nature spot), great cultural events, a good sporting culture, good internship culture (recent batches are seeing a good number of internships being alloted from Tier 1s and the College has expanded to collaborating with T2s and T3s as well), and all the freedom in the world. Mind you the academic rigour may not be that great, it is solely your drive and willpower that will guide you here, the college will give you a great platform.

See if you want to stay near Home MNLU should be the pick. but believe me when I say this leaving the comfort of home changes people. if you wanna compare colleges NLIU is better comparatively to MNLU. a good alumni base and flagship events in the country means something in a fluctuating legal market and it would be reflected in coming years. even if you run current placements no. for the 27 batch that is ongoing NLIU comes out better. although MNLU is a absolutely good choice as well if you want to stay near home, there is nothing you can't do at MNLU that you can at NLIU. I would recommend getting in touch with alumni of both the colleges then make a call. good luck

By making a holistic assessment of things. I would say it is easily NLIU Bhopal in this scenario. You will struggle at MNLU and other than the locational assessment, there are no perks. I dont see why someone would want MNLU Mumbai, if they can just go to GLC and do running internships.
