I’m part of the 2026 batch and recently got placed in a T1 firm’s Indirect Tax practice. I’ve interned fairly extensively in IDT across different firms and with smaller practitioners, so I’m not walking in completely blind, but I’d be lying if I said I’m not nervous about the probation period.
I started on June 1st, and the 6-month probation feels like it’s looming over everything. I know the work itself (drafting, research, briefings) but I’m worried about things like:
• How to manage the pace and volume of work at a big firm vs. internships
• What seniors actually look for during probation (beyond just “good work”)
• How to handle feedback/criticism without it knocking my confidence
• Tips on building a good rapport with the team early on
• Any common mistakes first-years make that I should watch out for
I’d really appreciate any advice, big or small.
