if you dont have connections, network, build some references, present yourself well to clients of your firm and try to get to a point where you will know someone who can bring business around 7-8 year PQE. It also does get easier with experience as your childhood friends might move into senior positions, you handle client meetings etc, you build a network naturally if you present yourself well and do good work.
Build relationships early on, be shameless in asking if you can collaborate on something, atleast that is what I do now with my peers in IB and M&A teams of banks and funds
