It is easy to say things like this when you have no context. Let me give you some context.

I have been friends with this ▮▮▮A" since before campus opened physically. I have seen him face the highest of ups and the lowest of downs in all these years. He never liked NUJS and I always fought with him about it, now I clearly see why.

He makes friends everywhere he goes. The same friend group which is intent on ruining his name used to call him a member of their "girl gang". One of them had named him punching bag and they used to properly hit him everyday and he never minded. All of them knew he was safe and he never retaliated. I used to ask him why he let them and he said he enjoyed the fun and games and they were his friends. Once I also remember members of the same girl gang putting a passed out junior girl to carry in the arms of this same guy they are calling unsafe now. He ensured she reached her hostel safely while they partied.

Now tell me, why did this guy slap the girl? This guy who was so safe girls felt they could absolutely smack him and all they would get in return is a smile. This guy who never had one speck of violence towards any of his female friends. I specify female friends as I do not live in the BH and cannot say for what he did there. I can only tell about the times when my batchmates in GH called him whenever there was emergency in the middle of the night.

So yes, you are right when you say "usne bhi kuch kiya hoga". I refuse to believe that he slapped her without a genuine reason behind it and evidently I am not alone. You can call him a lot of things but you cannot call him an assaulter.

He refuses to tell me or anyone for that matter what triggered the slap. He just says he got angry and that "maarna nahi chahiye tha". He has gotten angry before, he has never raised hands. Kuch to jarur kiya hoga that he ended up slapping.

You need to understand that things are not always black and white. So many people in my batch have done more than slapping and no one said anything. Just because this is a guy and a girl, suddenly everyone is triggered. Exchange the genders and there have been multiple instances with no consequence. The girl gang and their boys have turned their backs on him but for me, I will still be his friend. And I will hit him sometimes and know that he will return a smile. I have had my fair share of experiences in 5 years and I know how to judge a person. He was there when people needed him and now the same people have ganged up against him. I will not. And I'm happy to see that I am not alone.

The mail seemed like a joke because of the two people who were involved. It was hard to digest as he has quite visibly had her back over the past few years, if it was involving any other person it would have been much more believable. From what I have heard from my friends who are also his friends, the mail that was sent was vetted by the person affected before it was sent out. Not sure how true though.

This is getting laughable at this point. People who say they know him are saying he made a mistake and he is sorry for it but he is not a bad person. People who probably don't know him are saying what he did is unforgivable. Some people have gone on an entirely different tangent about the suicide and administration. All this while the woman who was actually affected has complained and got the recourse what she wanted to.

What even is the point of this discussion now? Every action has consequences and he has faced it. Whether he is a bad person or not is immaterial now. If he is actually sorry about what he did as people who claim to know him are saying, then hopefully he does better in the future.

Yeah that's my point exactly. Most assaults are not by people who "go around physically assaulting people" but chicks be happy to fall over themselves to validate the men they know. Is she saying that the woman involved is the kind of person who goes around lying about being assaulted? Because that is the implication of this. If she is saying that and you are endorsing then you should have the honesty to say it directly. Because that is what you are really saying when you suggest that the man is impeachable. You are saying the woman is questionable. And may it come right back to you one day if you are wrong.

He's attained a position of legitimacy and image of sensitivity with the offices he held but he's always been the kind to do something like this. Completely unsurprised esp having witnessed his rash conduct during events he's headed. People aren't who they seem to be. There's a near zero chance a first year girl would get to see that side of him like inside the BH.

In case it is a first year, you've subscribed to the wrong parts of NUJS, man. Didi/bhaiya culture, justifying violence because someone felt bad they got turned down, this really isn't what this college is about – although I can't blame you for having felt that way.

Sweet and welcoming seniors were always the ones to look out for during our early years too, because a lot of the times these people were nicer and sweeter to juniors because nobody in their batch liked them.

But that is my point na, he did not hide. I am not saying he did not make a mistake, but he is not such a bad person as people here are making him out to be. And this is not my experience alone, a lot of my friends (both genders) will also voucher for this. If he was not good at heart why would he have owned up when there was no proof?

Maybe Asol Poriborton will change things now? Several folks avoided it because the system was already gamed to favour certain apparatchiks. Don't just blame the politicians since tere are other venerable"apolitical" players. Some meritorious or otherwise candidates couldn't game an already rigged process in their favour and left midway or didn't try again due to losses suffered in earlier attempts. NKC got lucky with repeated attempts (since the days of MPS). A big section got rattled by successive exposures by a combative SJA during 2014-2019. These potentials needed surety that IOUs can be encashed and trafficked without inconvenient inquiries etc. And once that was secured again by Lord Taluk, we were blessed with NKC.

Beyond the usual optics, bells and whistles of "development for student and academic welfare" whether it will be business as usual under Nandi and BJP remains to be seen.

I was scrolling through this thread now after seeing the messages on this, finally someone who is not portraying him as a proper villain. I don't agree with you as losing control is not a justification at all but atleast he owned up and I respect that. As I understand no one actually saw what happened and he could have very easily denied doing anything. Everyone makes mistakes and what I see here is someone who has paid for it.

I really don’t think you realise how small NUJS actually is until you’re forced to live in close quarters with close to 400 people on this small campus. We’ve all, at some point, interacted with him, regardless of how small or insignificant that interaction was. Our campus is 5 acres at best, with 2 hostels and 1 acad block in all of that. Every single one of us had to pass by the hostels with fucking reminders of what had happened, which certainly wasn’t helped by the cordoned off construction tape blocking of half of campus. We lost someone, and yes a lot of us might not’ve known him too well, or at all, but he was still one of us. He was still a kid man. Please stop spewing vitriol and have a little more sympathy for the ones who’ve lost a friend, batchmate and a junior. Not everything needs to be a self-motivated act that needs to be called out by apparent social warriors on the internet.

First year student (F) of NUJS here. When I saw the mail I was surprised, as A bhaiya is one of the most sweet and welcoming seniors. He helped some of my batchmates also during a party when they were blacked out drunk and made sure they were safe. Last month when we were all shook by J's passing, he was the one who made efforts to comfort many of my batchmates and me. It is very difficult for me to believe that he slapped A didi coz they were very close whenever I saw them together. I suspect there is something missing here coz the story does not add up. I have always felt very safe around him more than any other senior. I think he lost control in the heat of the moment but I still think he is not a bad person at heart. What he did was wrong but there has to be a different explanation.

Speaking as someone who has been friends with both, the matter did not escalate coz he was actually sorry about what he did and said that he will accept any punishment that she wanted. She asked for a public apology and he gave it. He took accountability and she did not want it to blow up.

The way you refer to your vice chancellor is disgusting. Though I don't like the guy at all, he is far more senior, more qualified, and better behaved person than you are. Your behaviour goes to show why capable people avoid this university these days. Who wants students like you who lack in basic manners and decency? Bodyshaming and name-calling don't go hand in hand with education or saviour complex.

Suffering process as punishment isn't an option. But to institutionalise entrenchment of the same whereby the ecosystem supports alleged perps to audaciously get away while the SJA keeps padding up individual CV is something that should be called out more loudly and consistently till change is riveted into the system.

There's no trauma, just opportunism shown by the complicit majority. Which is why most of those 'traumatised' people didn't even turn up for the condolence ceremony, grief counseling etc. (not by admin but by students). If you've genuinely faced trauma, then the comment isn't dictated towards you at all. Most did not. Moreover, trauma didn't prevent people from going to vacations, interning. Nor was it an excuse not to attend classes or pay fees but still demand to sit for the exams. Even before ▮▮▮ many were negotiating to get the debarred list withdrawn. Grief indeed!

You can keep couching it the way you like, the fact remains that it was a blatant disrespect to the memory of a student whom most of you didn't even know that well, butv whose death used to get out of jams like debarment list and unpreparedness for exams. There have been students who immediately left for vacations after the exams were made optional and then were those who chose to exercise their opt-out after seeing the question paper.

This is hardly the head's fault if the students including the victim choose not to bring the matter up to the administration. If they have already done so, then yes, IC proceedings do take time to finish. The perpetrator may graduate by then. That's how law works. If you don't like it, then lobby to change it.

How extremely vile of you to bring up students being given an OPTIONAL exam deferral mechanism in light of a co-student- batchmate- friend's death on campus FOUR DAYS before exams began as some cheap talking point about opportunism.

I'd like to understand, is there genuinely no difference in your mind between:

1. Having to sit down and concentrate for endsem exams immediately after a suicide on the same three-acre campus, with police poking moving around, students breaking down and the entire atmosphere being steeped in grief and shock; and

2. Going ahead with internships scheduled weeks later, with professional and financial consequences attached?

Putting the words "mental health" in quotation marks the way you've done, and your armchair grief-policing and purity testing are nauseating, but I'd like to understand, what exactly according to you is the bar for trauma to opt out of writing an exam? Unless someone's catatonic enough to your liking, they ought to be forced to write exams 4 days after, no?

The picture you paint of us students as some feudal beneficiaries enjoying the fruits of admin corruption is laughable. Maybe it could've occured to you even as you typed this out that we were trying to cope with shock, grief and exhaustion, and accepted said OPTIONAL institutionally provided concession during such an extraordinary tragedy, but alas.

Listen man, whoever you are, our sincere apologies for failing to perform trauma in your aesthetic. We'll ensure that if there's a next time, nobody will attend internships, smile accidentally, leave our rooms or function in any visible capacity unless certified to be sufficiently traumatized by a licensed practitioner. Name and shame this person and publicise this mail. People like this deserve far harsher consequences than a public apology with no real consequences. I know the mods won’t allow for names, but give the initials at least so others maybe aware of the kind of person they’re engaging with.

The accountability has to start with the students. What steps have been taken against this individual by the students themselves? Whenever any action is initiated by the university, the students themselves will start protesting. Has this incident been reported by the CRC or any student including the victim to the firm that the perpetrator is going to join? If not, why? You cannot keep enjoying the fruits of a corrupt system and then complain the moment it works against you. The way the students shamefully leveraged the death of a student to cherry pick which exam to give, but are still doing their internships regardless of 'mental health' concerns goes to show the disgusting opportunism.

Requesting mods to not censor this as this is all public information now: The ▮▮▮ of the ▮▮▮ at NUJS has sent a public mail owning up to and apologising for slapping and "manhandling" a female batchmate during a conversation inside the ▮▮▮ room. This same individual has also been part of the ▮▮▮ at NUJS for many years.

Nothing will come out of this. Since he graduates next week, the college will brush it under the rug as it has for every other such instance. This individual will join his corporate law job and just live life to the fullest. Shame to NUJS.
