Hey, i completed my LLM from a Tier 3 non nlu law school. Cleared Net last year. Since i did not have the NLU tag, RGNLU and DBRANLU removed me after interview, even though i had upper hand in merit. Fortunately i was able to make it in Panjab university. However, i need to have a job to sustain myself. Can you kind people please guide me on how to secure a decent job as assistant professor, without being exploited (applied in some colleges, offered salary of 15-20k).

If you do not have anything in your CV that stands out, such as good peer reviewed or SCOPUS publications or conferences, or industry experience, nor is your degree from a well-known university, then it is difficult to secure such a position that will pay decently. You can try to work at coaching centres for law entrance, judiciary etc. which will fetch more money than what you have been offered so far. Otherwise, try for JRF or some research project fellowship that get advertised on different fora. Once you finish your PhD, better offers may come.

Still a law student at one of the NLUs, so I can only suggest things based on my limited understanding.

You can try clearing JRF and starting a PhD. There are opportunities to work as a Research Associate at many NLUs, where the initial pay is around 50–60K, and it can eventually convert into an Assistant Professor role.

Also, focus on publications and conferences.

I know these suggestions may not be entirely relevant, but please don’t get demotivated by the comments people make on this platform. Many will repeatedly tell you that being a non-NLU student makes things impossible but don’t worry, your time will come. Please don’t lose hope.

We have many professors at our NLU who are from non-NLU backgrounds and do not have strong connections. Maybe I cannot fully guide you on what exactly to do, but I can confidently say that it is possible.

Don’t judge yourself based on what these privileged people, sitting in their AC chambers, say to you on LI.

You can also try for SC Law Clerkship and other such exams like, IBPS Law Officer etc, as you said you cracked NET. These exams are very much doable to you. Try giving SEBI as well.

So what? Not everyone has the privilege of sitting in AC chambers, ranting from a place of comfort and connections. It’s honestly surprising how self-centered people have become, unable to even help someone who genuinely needs a push.

And who isn’t desperate for a job? Or maybe you’re that person who never had to struggle for anything and got everything handed through family connections. Pity.

Write to the VCs directly.Also, did you really browse through your options at different NLUs enough, before you got into PU for PhD?There are better private universities as well where you could jave recieved a stipend as well as TAs!You should have worked a lot more towards your research proposal.

No, it's not about PU being good or not; I meant that the job market is bleak, so you should've looked for places where they offered a stipend like NLUs, etc.Thee are IIMs, like Calcutta Public Policy, where there are professors who take law students for PhD and the stipend is very lucrative.But the degree would be in public policy.

For phd it's all about your thesis and how honestly you complete with collaboration from your guide.

once you have worked there for 2-3 years and have the phd, you can think of applying again to get the position regularised

most private unis exploit their teaching staff, NLUs do so in the garb of TA, as more and more NLU graduates do LLM, about 2-3% do so each year, the competition will become more stringent
