That being said, if you have a stellar profile to beat the odds in a gloomy job market, and are confident that you would be able to land up with a job with similar pay as the one that you have in hand right now, maybe you could gamble. Depends on how confident you are about that, and how badly you need the job. Else, wouldn't recommend being too greedy. Peace of mind has its worth.
On to my query:
I’m set to join the disputes team at a mid-sized firm upon graduation, having received a pre-placement offer last year. The in-hand compensation would be around ₹1 lakh per month.
At the same time, I may have a chance at another firm in a similar tier that offers slightly higher pay (around ₹1.3 lakh per month). However, pursuing this would mean declining my current offer, with the risk that I may not convert the second opportunity and end up without a job at graduation.
Is the difference in pay worth giving up a secured offer? Is ₹1 lakh in hand sufficient to live comfortably in Delhi, especially while managing loan repayments and trying to save for an LLM abroad? Would it be more sensible to stick with the current offer and consider switching after 1–2 years of experience?
I also can’t help but compare with peers who are on track to earn significantly more (₹18–24 LPA), which adds to the uncertainty.
Would appreciate any perspectives on this, especially given the current job market.
