they definitely do. further, some boutique firms in bombay at least dont hire based on religion too.
Not Law Firms, but Partners give preference to their caste if all other things are sorted in an individual over another while hiring.

P.S. - There is a Corp Partner in โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ, every associate, SA, and PA is from his subcaste only, and have seen in majority, places so yes.

Higher Caste by itself do not have advantage. But if higher caste means generational wealth you would generally have a better chance at being from a metro city, having better English communication skills better education, , etc etc

Law firms only care if you can bill them, irrespective of your caste. If you have skill and culturefit that they need you will be hired.
