Headhunter approached but I had sent feelers to a few who kept saying nothing for my PQE when all of a sudden somebody reached out.

Definitely way easier to get a job in another t1. Once you are in one t1, it takes almost nothing to move to another one. Moving in house to a profile that works for you takes patience and intense search.

Usually when you move from a tier 1 law firm to in house - you gotta take a paycut - sometimes upto 50%.

How did you avoid the paycut? What's the strategy?

Not OP, but from what I have heard that if you are from T1 and 5+ years of PQE, companies don’t usually cut pay that much if you are the candidate they want

Hi, do you know anyone who moved with 5+ PQE - Indirect tax law from a T1?

I am looking for some advice, and I don't know how to even look for something suitable. Most companies look for CA qualified people in tax, but the right headhunter may be able to help?

This is possible. Many large domestic and MNC cos are setting up internal IDT teams. You can get a role in that depending on your experience.
