Interesting to contrast this with the BJP and TMC. So many young law grads (with better qualifications) have been tweeting in favour of there Congress and BJP for years, but they haven't even got an MLA ticket, leave along a Rajya Sabha seat.

Mamata really has a tendency to surprise with her picks!! But this also fits into a pattern of choosing people who are very active on Twitter, like Jawhar Sircar, Saket Gokhale or Sagarika Ghosh.
Sourav was clearly chosen because of his social media activity rather than professional standing. Had it been the latter, she would have chosen someone like Jaideep Gupta or Menaka Guruswamy or even Debanjan Mandal.
This shows the immense influence social media has. No one follows legacy mainstream
media anymore, certainly not people below 35. So Mamata is smart to sense the trend.
