A non-NLU observer, by definition, cannot be "neutral" in this space and especially as regards this topic. One of the few kinds of people who have anything to do with law and who are connected with India in any way who can even hope to make a claim of this kind that has half a leg to stand on are those, like me, who, for one reason or another, did not want or need any kind of a legal education in India at all (or for whom, because of maybe a combo of personal circumstances and/or career ambitions, a legal education in India as opposed to one outside India may have been viewed by themselves and/or their families as a liability rather than an asset). After all, such persons have no skin in the game, as far as Indian workplace competition etc goes, and can amuse themselves for a relaxing half an hour by reading this hub for first class shitposting.

You couldn’t be more laughably wrong. Nls alumni are the most generous of the lot. Every single point in my career an old nls alumni has mentored me.

They won’t do my work for me if that’s what you expect, but they’re quick to notice talent and offer guidance and support.

This is cent percent true. They certainly don't help their juniors or students from NLS. In fact, I have seen the brand work against me. Whenever I have gone for internships, associates had withheld work just because of insecurity and they also give vague directions so that someone from NLS does not outperform them and they get a chance to say 'look this person is from NLS, they can't even perform well'. Sad part is NLS alums also don't help their juniors because of optics situation. They want to appear fair. I think the most aggressive support is granted to NUJS alums and Symbiosis alums. Luthra Delhi and Mumbai has been entirely captured by symbiosis people because they promote their own folks. Their entire cap marks team is symbiosis folks. I have also noticed people having a conplex about someone being from NLS and projecting their insecurities. I have had people throw shade on me and make assumptions about me being snooty just because I am from NLS, even though I have been nothing but nice to them. The lack of support from my own alums and petty cliquey behaviour from people from other universities (who generally promote their own people) has been extremely damaging to me and plenty of students at NLS who are just trying to make a living and learn/grow in this profession. Also, if you are from NLS be prepared to be subjected to th following:-

1. Comments about how you don't know stuff and are privileged

2. Tumhe toh naukri mil hi jaayegi because brand ( as if that discounts the hardwork I put at NLS (gruelling, tough academic situation)

3. Comments about how xyz college (NLU is better)

4. Be prepared to be bullied by the entire office and everyone in the chain: From associate to partner (god forbid, if they are from another NLU-they will make your life hell and berate you.

5. Comments about attitude issues just because you are from NLS. (without evidence to support the same)

6. Be prepared to be made to do work that is associate/senior associate level with minimal directions and then be berated for doing not a good job.

7. God forbid if you seek mentorship from them, they would shun you away and tell you to go 'speak to your alum, they promote you anyway' (which is not true, they don't)

You end up in a rock and hard place because your alums don't support you and people from other universities hold things against you always even when you are friendly/don't have airs about being from NLS. Mods, please don't withhold/censor this message- I want to put this across the community for both NLS alums and people from other unis to see, but more importantly I want my juniors to see this and be prepared for what is to come. NLS is an insulated space so we don't encounter this a lot there but this is a reality I have faced. I don't know why people hold things against us but they do. If you are a junior from NLS who has faced this/are facing this know that we will always have to optimize for other people's insecurities and be the best we can be: Do every task with 100 percent dedication because people are waiting to rip you apart for things that are minor mistakes for other interns. Other people can make mistakes, you making a mistake, however insignificant or minor would be a sin.

This is so true. There are hardly any associates from NLS at the mid levels. NLS alums are either Partners or A0/A1 so the ability to help is actually low. On top of that, most NLS alums are reluctant to help their juniors. On the other hand, you will find teams filled with NUJS/NLUJ/GNLU grads actively helping interns get work from SA/PA and partners.

Been at t1 firms for 4-5 years now, I've seen people from NLS don't really go out of their way to help their juniors or new interns like how people from nalsar or nujs or nluj do, odd because nls has lesser people in these firms already (they leave for other passions and other reasons) - on top of that a lack of support is more damaging. An argument could be made that they are from nlsiu so a support per se is not needed and the name speaks for itself, but visibility is good for everyone in my opinion. Maybe I am not qualified enough to assess and this is an incorrect observation.
