I don't need to town the sass down, mate, you cant perform, you wont get paid. The same principle applies anywhere, be it law or anywhere. I back myself and if I cannot make it, that is on me. If you can't achieve something here, there's no guarantee you will anywhere else.

I studied hard made it to T1 Uni, worked hard to have a top 5 GPA and even harder to convert my internship, if work is tough I will have to work harder but I wouldnt bitch and moan about it on an anonymous platform as an SA when I cannot achieve an increment which almost every other senior I have spoken about speaks about as a bare minimum, especially at a firm which openly said counsels at 8 year PQE makes 1 crore, which speaks volumes about the progression even though ik the 1 cr figure is etched on max bonus which even if most dont achieve will still make a lot of money.

Work harder, and maybe 15% wont seem like a lot.

Go ahead and try to demotivate people more cause you have no scope left in your role and are an NPA.

IB and strategy consulting have far too many variables. In an MBA, you're a sum total of your profile in the sense that you compete with people who have experience, people who have a different undergrad and people who have completely different skills. In a law firm, you're competing with people who are only from law school. So, atleast you know what it takes and what profile they look for.

As a senior associate in Trilegal, let me tell you one thing - this very presumed 15% YOY doesn’t happen. It varies on your performance and also the performance of your team - you can very well just get a lakh in increment. I have seen kids who were great as interns, leave (or forced to leave) within a year of joining due to lack of performance. So why don’t you tone down the sass and be humble and pray to god your career doesn’t end up like that. Feel free to take a dig at me if that helps you sleep at night.

idk who is crying so much, but as an upcoming T1 A0, purely just my fixed pay is 16.5(Trilegal). Assume even a 15% hike YOY (below avg) gets me to 25 lakhs a year ( 2.1 a month) at 25 because I will be 22 when I join.

This does not even factor in the bonus, which starts at 3 lakhs for an A0 and might be 5-6 at the time I'm an A3.

even more pressingly the pay for most t1 lawyers will grow faster than most MBA's and we also get the added bonus of partnership pay and equity skyrocketing comp to 8-10 cr at T1's (aged roughly 37-38 if you start at 22) for equity partners as disclosed by Rishab Shroff regarding the starting Equity partner pay at CAM in an interview.

Tier 2 law firms can't match a Tier 1 MBA, the same way a Tier 2 law firm still outpaces a Tier 2 MBA.

We have countless cons from the stress, nature of work for some, the hours but crying about pay at a t1 is comical.

Thanks for the post. Although, why are you discounting the IB, strategy, consulting, etc roles? Placement from a T1 college at a T1 firm is also not guaranteed with Jindal and other colleges creating some takers for limited T1 firm jobs. So why not compare the entire picture? I would reckon that once the top mgt posts are considered, whose packages are much higher than general pay bracket of T1s, maybe the conclusion would change

I see quite a bit of MBA vs Law in here. Well, I'm a guy who did neither. I got into a top 5 law school in my second CLAT attempt but didn't end up loving it. Left in a week or so and continued with my undergrad ( I was already a year into it). But I'm still in touch with some lads from this NLU.

Fast forward a few years, I got into XLRI. Again, didn't end up going. This time because I'd just started up my own thing. Most of my friends went to top b schools and I have an excellent idea of what goes on there.

FMCG/CPG programs can be considered the above average outcome for the vast majority. I myself had a HUL PPO even before joining campus through something called UFLP. The pay 35L CTC - with an in - hand of around 2lpm. This is for someone who is, on an average, 24-26 years old. Remember, they've also spent 30-35 lacs all in on their MBA and lost 2 years of pay.

I reckon a lawyer at a T1 takes home 2 lpm by the time they're 25 or so without the student loan. Plus, law firm salaris grow faster than CPG salaries. Also, y'all be really using that 44ADA or whatever it is where you don't really pay a lot of tax. I've been led to believe your take home is like 85-90% of you CTC(I'm not too certain as I don't want to pry on my friends)

Ofc, I am not comparing the IB/PE/VC/HF/AIF/strat consulting/PM roles. These are far and few in between and are a top 20% outcome. A good law firm is far more acheivable and in one's control. Unless you're tired sick of law and want a desperate out, a B school isn't worth it. Atleast for most of y'all.
