for my understanding this happened because of law firm and their obsession with gpa . if we compare CPC, CrPC, Company Law, Banking Law, Tax Law, Contract Law ,Constitutional Law, IPC with human rights or general 'poetic' area of law then it is easy to get good gpa in this compared to others . In the end firm even dont look at elective in the cv. Firms just sees high cpa equates to a pass in jobs or internship . So student are gaming the system by taking easy subject . This take is subjective and I had only seen this in my circle . Because of ai student just chatgpt it or ask to other llm provide the information about the project they're working on . These LLMs are trained on article and wikipedia, biased towards them or use only these sources to understand the context of the prompt the user provided .

Just making a general observation applicable to a lot of law school. In the guise of "critical thinking", the hard law component of Indian law schools is being severely diluted. There is little or no focus on drafting. There are very few conferences, elective courses, intra-moots etc on hard law subjects like CPC, CrPC, Company Law, Banking Law, Tax Law, Contract Law etc. In subjects like Constitutional Law or IPC, the study of sources like statutes and case law are cursory. Many of the teachers are busy waging culture wars. For example, to appreciate issues like the CAA, grant of bail to Umar Khalid, sedition etc, we need to stop obsessing over Modi this and Hindutva that. We need to familiarities ourselves with solid legal precedents, maxims, methods of statutory interpretation etc. Think like a lawyer.

The other big problem I see is reliance on sources like Wikipedia, which in turn lead to reliance on sources like the Wire, Caravan etc. That is no substitute for reading law journal articles and case law.
