Justice Ashim Ray will head up the committee constituted by the CM to inquire into the mess up and fix responsibility. Justice Ray has been a veteran EC member and was part of several inquiries initiated by the EC against PIB and his acolytes. He also headed up various inquiries etc during NKC tenure too. Wonder what happened to those inquiries.

SJA if you are done playing and wagging like a L...G could you please make these inquiry reports available to GB?

Obviously Mamata will appoint a servile ex-judge who will whitewash her government’s role. Speaks volumes that he is also on the NUJS EC and exemplified the decay of the institutions. When Menon, MP Singh and BS Chimni were heading NUJS, the ex-judges on the EC were legends: Ruma Pal, Chittatosh Mookherjee etc.

The SJA has continued to look the other way and engage in pointless culture wars.

You keep whining about the same thing in the comments section. One assumes that you're somehow associated with NUJS. What exactly have you done over the years to stop the government from nominating people to the EC, who in your opinion are not good enough? What can the SJA do exactly? How is it even possible for the students to decide who gets to be in the EC?

Agree that SJA has no control over who gets appointed by state govt in the EC. However it was a willing tool when certain influential EC members wanted someone gone. I am not complaining against the eviction.

But SJA can demand and ensure that inquiries instituted by EC are completed in timely and transparent manner and those reports are shared in full with the GB. If the SJA makes serious allegations against those in authority then it should share the evidence with GB and not scoot and shoot when questioned by GB.

This SJA is ▮▮▮ and the brass must get an exemplary send off.

Disciplined, regular, totally unbending in the commitment to bring everything to a grinding halt till stuff is sorted out. Look at the British junior doctors working in their state health system, the value of whose real term pay has gradually eroded since 2008, as source of inspiration.

Many accuse The Wire of a certain bias. But it has done a very good and indepth reporting on the Messi mess and Justice Ray.

This does not mean that accusations of bias were motivated or misplaced. But this is solid reporting. Even earlier it had done a great scoop on Meira Kumar when she was the opposition candidate for Prez. No other media including the political ones uncovered it.

Why forget gems such as Shyamal Sen (invited for some IDG lecture earlier by the sheep here), the current SHRC chief and his immediate predecessor ( both were univ GC members and the current SHRC chief was even made a Chair Prof here) and Lord Taluk.

Dig deep and join the dots.

And what about others? If Chowkidar party is so good (mostly by your logic) then what explains the dismal record of CBI and other alphabet soup agencies' dismal conviction record during their tenure?

Sure GOP and others abused power and made CBI etc toothless etc. What stupendous leaps have these sterling agencies taken since 2014?

Just consider the record in Bengal. Zilch with Ponzi scam cases. RG Kar buried. Sandeshkhali and many other cases saw prime PWs getting offed. All that CBI and Co could was whine as if they have an inherent right to get a free pass.

Though the TMC remains favourites to win, their win probability is decreasing day by day. It may be 50-50 when the elections start. Some key factors are at play which were not there in the last election:

- SIR will remove false voters in swing constituencies -- we should not focus on the total number deleted, but focus on the number deleted in each swing constituency.

- The Muslim vote may be split by AIMIM and Humayun Kabir in some seats.

- Secular Hindus voting for the Left may switch to the BJP because they are fed up with the TMC

- Consolidation of Hindu votes for the BJP, because of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

I think you will see the power brokers at NUJS being very quiet for the next few months. The action will begin only after the results come out. If there is a change, some will switch sides and some will be removed. Some may literally land up in jail if the ED/CBI is set upon them (at least three people in the governing bodies have already been raided or questioned by central agencies).

Also, the VC is not an ideological person like Faizan Mustafa. He can swing either way and will most happily pander to the BJP if there is a change in regime. That will also help his national ambitions, eg NLUD VC-ship or Law Commission membership in future.
