For SCAM, 7-8 IPOs can get them across this number.
Bump why are capital markets lawyers silent on this
Does that mean there's gonna be legal job openings in MBs for CM lawyers instead of law firms? And will that be any better?
Gang it's barely even 30 crores which will be a stretch even for a good year.
Only now MBs won’t be able to easily shift the blame to Law Firms (for legal due diligence) and CA firms (for financial due diligence)

Hopefully MBs will also strengthen their in-house teams now
it is not like the foreign firms are dying to come to india, it is not really a lucrative market for them
Pls see the Bar and Bench report on IPO's and do the math yourself
Wow 300 Cr billing that to annually!!! I dont think CAM has started side gig as a Lead Manager.

300? Bro hasn’t read a single offer document πŸ₯€
Keep dreaming, law firms have connections with Judges and ministers. How else were they able to scuttle the entry of foreign firms, and still are
Uh no they didn't, CAM capital markets bills like Rs 300 cr a year , Trilegal too around the same or even more who knows. That is a lot of revenue for the firm. Law firms will not allow this to happen
The "lobby" of Indian law firms are neither economically, nor politically significant, maybe barring Cyril Shroff, because of his Adani connect. Other than that, the MPs of law firms are mostly nobodies.
It certainly ends the existing model of high volume but low skilled commoditised drafting work, for which teams used to load up on entry level lawyers. However, this may create big ticket niche advisory opportunities for those with experience and cross practise expertise.
Sir / Ma'am, Offer documents were traditionally drafted by MB and only the diligence was handled by the law firms. This was before the ICDR.
It is AI. I couldn't be bothered to read the whole amendment after stepping away from the practice area. God save the CM kids.
Interesting line of thought. Hope it's not written by AI

Worst case scenario is that law firms will retain their practices as the company counsel. And MB heavy teams will move to join Merchant Bankers in-house. But yeah it can be very chaotic.
Why isn't this news yet, SEBI cannot just end a multi crore industry like this, can they? The ICDR regulations also mention legal counsel. Merchant Bankers are not qualified to draft offer documents and ensure compliance
How can a regulator end an already dead practice area??
Can anyone who is working at T1 firms give some more clarity on this??? Literally freaking out rn
The recent amendments to the MB Regulations explicitly disallow outsourcing of due diligence and preparation of offer documents. Is this the end for Cap Marks teams?
