We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.

> tbh if you really think your t1 college tag makes you better than others then so does their t1 firm tag. You're not any different
Merit in law is not something that can be scrutinised by most of these existing HRs, who have broadly adopted traditional corporate hiring practices to this field, without understanding the nuances of the profession.
This profession is full of assholes and the system rewards such people sadly. You can just focus on your work and keep applying.
Also most of these God complex lawyers have a shitty personal life from what I have observed, so them showing their superiority at work is just a compensation and it's problematic.
HRs act like theyβre doing you a personal favour by letting you speak for 10 minutes.
Then come the interviews with SAs and partners. They expect A2-level candidates to know SA-level knowledge. They ask questions from transactions youβve never even been exposed to because your firmβs practice is different, and then smirk when you falter. They laugh when you get something wrong. Itβs like the goal is not to evaluate you, itβs to humiliate you. Apparently having gone to a tier-1 college means nothing. Apparently answering almost everything correctly still means nothing. Because ultimately it comes down to some random internal bias, whether you βlookβ like their type, whether youβve done the exact type of deal they want to hear.I have been asked if I am a first gen lawyer in each interview I have given. Itβs like a class test disguised as small talk. If you donβt have a family full of lawyers youβre automatically treated as lesser. Nobody comes in knowing 50 categories of deals. But if you havenβt done the exact kind of transaction they want, suddenly youβre βnot readyβ. As if any of them knew everything when they were juniors.
The whole process just feels dehumanising.
Thatβs it. I just needed to say this somewhere. I have one year of experience man, what the fuck are you expecting from me?
