Just want to ensure I follow the protocol properly. From what I heard, we should use a gender neutral term like "Professor" and not assume the person's gender, unlike "Sir" and "Miss".

Professor, Sir, and Ma'am are alright. Never heard anyone refer to a professor as 'Miss'. Some professors may even be fine with you calling them by their first name.

Pitty you can't react to comments with emojis, like how you can do with WhatsApp messages. If that facility had been there, I would have given this a "love" reaction.

I wanted to do that the year I started teaching but a colleague advised me to wait until I was more senior. That makes sense, especially for women. I would avoid "miss" since it sounds passive aggressive in our cultural context. "Professor" is appropriate.

professor is the safest, then they'll tell you what they'd prefer if they have issues.

Thumb rule is to say “professor” and use they/their pronouns, until they inform you their preferred salutation and pronouns.
