By almost every metric - lawyers will make shitty parents.
Nothing to do with lawyers and non-lawyers. If you want to raise a child well in India today, you need to be a multi-crorepati, because of rising costs and taxes. So MONEY is the determinant, not time. If you have enough money, you can cut down on work and devote more time.
That is the most defensive response I have ever seen.

Introspect.
Having worked in a firm myself for a year now, one think is very clear to me- they take themselves too seriously, almost as if they are IAS officers doing β€œurgent work”!
I guess you should have kids only once you have established a base as a lawyer or established the kid in the school and then start working. Both are possible but it needs a hell of a routine and understanding bosses and then discipline
People are earning big bucks and having a fulfilling family life as well. Lawyers need to stop deluding themselves. Only Lawyers act as if they are saving the world everyday.
Have nannies, grandparents, drivers, cars, bungalows but keep bleating that you are a First Generation lawyer
Sure; everything can be outsourced. Nannies, schooling - everything. This is what leads to kids with a hell lot of mental issues and loneliness who in turn try to screw up the world.
There's a thing called having nannies or even in a lot of cases grandparents.

It's not an ideal situation tbh because quality time with your own child is priceless but gotta earn the big bucks especially in this mad expensive world.
Everybody is doing their best. Stop judging. If you want to ask for yourself, again, you do your best. Nobody is perfect.
How are law firm folks even able to be half decent parents? Assuming one reaches home by 8/9 pm daily, most kids are already asleep. They don’t enjoy home cooked food. And what about late nights at work for signings? And working weekends? Isn’t this negligent parenting?
