Kapil's three elder brothers cleared UPSC. He himself cleared civil services twice. His wife was in the foreign services. If you have that many connections you can also become a top lawyer like him. One major USP of Sibal is that he was a cabinet minister for 10 years. He got popular because of that as well. Most political parties and state governments brief him because of that. So, his name keeps coming in the newspapers and people consider him some big shot despite losing so many cases.
Or does he take up a lot of cases that are politically sensitive hence tougher to win?

The legal industry has not promoted merit, they have promoted connections and nepotism.

b. If the sole scale of comparison with Kapil Sibal is his income, that too as starting point then no doubt you will feel despair. ( I don't think he made the amount of money he makes at the beginning of his career.)
In my opinion, it is best to consider building blocks which might lead you to success- something that is required to become a competent lawyer. Figure out an area of expertise, think through how you will practice it, and build knowledge and skills required for the same. I know that it is very difficult to think about getting clients who will ultimately pay you- but that is a problem which will be solved as you spend years in practice. You will find people willing to pay you for your expertise.
