I don't know much about NUJS but having spent 5 years at GNLU, I can attest to the fact that the quality of professors at GNLU is simply nowhere near NUJS. We have at best 2-3 professors who are actually knowledgeable in their subject and know how to teach. The rest are horrendous.

Noojies should be a little humble about their arrogance. Let's not forget how 10 years back they were shouting that NLUD would never compare to them and today, NLUD is absolutely a far superior institution to NUJS and is ranked higher by literally every law aspirant and nearly everyone else with even an inkling of knowledge about NLUs.

The parameters are very real, you're just mad that GNLU can't crack any of those. Impact from research papers works the same way all over the world. Places where those get published, citations etc. If you are coming up with random ways to judge quality of research, then that's what is arbitrary. As for faculty quality, I have met with most of the faculty from both the places and there is not a single good quality teacher that GNLU has. The relevance of non-law firm placement is beyond you, because you don't even have a clue what alternate career law grads can have. You need better education to be aware of such things. In law firm placements too, NUJS has always been ahead of GNLU anyway. Newer NLUs working their way up? GNLU has been around for almost 2 decades now. Never has it come close to NUJS in any of the parameters related to education. So cope and seethe.

GNLU is sanghi and so they get rankings of higher marks each time and NUJS is the only NLU with human rights track and history. NIRF sabotages NUJS becuase of this one reason. GNLU is pro capitalism consumerism and so they are going up on perception score but NUJS is on the right side of humanity. Has anyone in GNLU ever held a pro palestine or lgbt protest? not even a chance.

"haven't ever" maybe work on the grammar first instead of making up arbitrary parameters? Has there been measurable societal impact from the research papers? How have you conducted a 1:1 mapping of faculty quality? What's the relevance of "non-law firm placement"? Hurts to see your legacy institute fade away in front of newer NLUs working their way up?

Let's not kid ourselves please. Our student body does nothing but in-fight and gossip. It's embarrassing that as a top tier NLU our only claim to fame is a student body that does a half-hearted protest once in a while. Meanwhile GNLU with zero protests is climbing up NIRF steadily. Shame to let that RW cesspool overshadow us in rankings by simply existing while we have to beg for basic rights

NUJS also has an active student body, which often gets powerful enough to evict VCs. Shook up PIB intermittently during his first term and then evicted him early into second term. All this when the entire EC had unanimously gifted him a second term and he had full state and HC support. Maybe this time too the students will do it to NKC despite the reluctance of SJA.

I’m not part of any of them. But will love to explain.

First reason: superior faculty. Though VC of both are mediocre and more or less equal, faculty of NUJS far superior to GNLU always in the past and even today.

Second reason: far superior alumni body: since 2000 to 2020, NUJS was always 2nd or 3rd choice of law aspirants. Even few kids left NLS to join NUJS every year. Those who graduated NUJS in 2005 and onwards (GNLU was not born in 2005) were brilliant individuals made their mark in every field. NUJS way ahead in this field.

Third reason: superior students: NUJS was and is always among top 2 or 3 choices of CLAT toppers. GNLU started as 6th/7th choice of law aspirants and by and large remains the same. Student quality at NUJS is superior

Fourth reason: unmatched legacy: NUJS was led by stalwarts. Menon was first VC like he was at NLS. Mitra, Chimni, MP Singh were best in India who led it. GNLU had Bimal Patel and now equally mediocre guy. It never got any truly remarkable scholar as its VC or director. That makes a lot of difference.

Fifth reason: Kolkata far ahead of Gandhinagar when it comes to law. Gujarat has business but Kolkata has one of the best HC, law chambers and some of the sharpest legal minds. That’s absent in entire Gujarat.

I can add ten more reasons but that’s waste of time. NUJS will remain ahead of GNLU but they must throw the VC out soon.

Careers 360 report on NUJS:

Hostel facilities, especially for girls, are abysmal. “Washrooms were under renovation for an entire month while we had to use them. It was horrible. Female students couldn’t access the washrooms when workers were present,” a student said.

“Most projectors, plug points don’t work. Air conditioners break down every two months, and every single classroom has water damage,” the leader said.

Classroom conditions have become hazardous with widespread water seepage, malfunctioning equipment, and exposed electrical wiring during the monsoon. “There is a lot of seepage in the classrooms, and it worsens when it rains. They get flooded, and it’s not safe,” a student said.

Complaining about unhygienic conditions on campus, one student said: “There were snakes roaming around”. Girls in a separate hostel had to get food delivered inside because they were afraid to step out.

Students report multiple injuries from slips and falls, including one where a student suffered spinal damage. “We’ve had disabled students fall down… people on crutches. It’s that bad,” one student said.

After months of inaction, students took matters into their own hands. They purchased and installed anti-slip mats throughout the campus.
