Now I don't know what to do. Seems foolish to leave a PPO from a tier one firm. Neither can I actually try working with him, because...you know..PPO and what not.
My parents will be able to support me, I have my own place near the guy's practice. I need some guidance.
Step 2: join your t1 upon graduation regardless.
Step 3: let life happen to you.
I think you should intern w the adv till you have to join your T1 firm. Tell noone of this internship. and if by then you have zero doubts - join. If you join your T1 job
Since you have family support, you can consider taking on the risk. However, a more pertinent question to ask yourself and answer honestly - the two require completely different skill sets. Do you think you are better suited for either of them in particular?
My biased view as a first gen litigator who left a T-1 firm - the short term discomfort of court practice is worth the long term reward. It will test you differently at different times, but if you remain steadfast, betting on yourself will pay off. You will have more room to grow and express yourself, you will interact with people more, have more control over your time when you go independent, and make more money if you provide a level of assistance that clients value.
Now I have no option but to make this work. I have seen the struggle and hard work associates put in a Law firm, if I put that in something I find more interesting, It has to work right? I sound naive - but somehow I feel this is it for me.
Litigation is not so rewarding in its intial years, but as has been said and proved time and again, it is much more intellectually rewarding, makes you well known in social circles, and gives you complete independence - everything that a corporate law firm does not provide, and where your career and skills would have stagnated because of the clerical nature of the work there.
