Now there will be some pointed exceptions perhaps here and there. There will be reasons for it. But the river largely flows in one direction. Why? Guess what is the profile of clients. Yes, you guessed it - its Marwaris and Gujaratis.
Now you may argue saying there are a lot of international institutions. But who are the folks manning the international institutions here. This business is a relationship business. Clients want familiarity as familiarity breeds trust.
What you do get in Bombay over Delhi is a lot more client facing roles. By not being one of the Mr Jains or Mr Shahs or Mehtas you actually stand out. If you get a chance to be in the room in the first place.
So little point in complaining. The odds you face are the odds you face. The smart thing to do is to figure out how to align with them carefully. Also, be careful - you maybe blind to some of Delhi's own biases. Delhi has its own Punjabi cliques.
You need to leverage what you have - on average - many feel the Delhi lawyer is more street smart. The exposure to litigation is useful even in transaction work, it you are in the corporate side. Use that to impress clients.
