I recently got into the 5-year LLB program at USLLS, but today during the document verification and offline counselling, I felt quite shattered about my dreams and expectations. The crowd didn’t feel right to me, and maybe it’s just me, but since the cut-offs were lower this year, I couldn’t help but notice that the peer group wasn’t as competitive as I had imagined. I felt a bit out of place.

I haven’t even started preparing for CLAT 2026 yet (my CLAT 2025 rank was around 2.5k – Delhi quota, which honestly I consider sheer luck). I don’t know how I’ll do it, and I feel scared and lost. In fact, I didn’t even feel this lost after the CLAT 2025 results. Part of me feels I should’ve gone with HPNLU or another option.

I don’t mean to shame anyone or the crowd, it’s just my personal thoughts and feelings. I’m 17 right now, and I feel that I could handle taking a partial drop year, but of course, I don’t want to take a huge risk either.

If anyone here could share some wisdom, guidance, or even personal experiences, I’d be really grateful. At this point, I just want to figure out whether I should stick it out at USLLS or give CLAT another shot.

Look bud I left good NLUs to be here. In my batch the top 10% of the peer group is good (many have left NLUO, NLU Patiala, NUSRL, NLUJ to be here for their own reasons), they are doing well and have the drive and motivation, but beyond that it is straight up horrible.

For most of us the reason for taking this college was the location and affordable fees. But now that the fees is on par with NLUs and they have increased the intake too, I would seriously suggest you to not join this college, since the crowd is worse now (hence the lower cut off)

Go to HPNLU if you still can, or any other decent NLU. ATB.

Hey mate, don’t worry too much about it. I’d suggest you start prepping for CLAT’26 rn. You still have more than 3 months left, and trust me, that’s plenty of time if you don’t have anything else going on. Clat can be cleared in 3 months w a great rank if you already have some experience.

Just get back to your desk and start solving mocks. Praying for you bud.

Let me break it to you, my friend:

Your career is majorly defined by you and not the college. You will see failures from NLS and success from MD University; the Courts treat all equally. Since you’ve already gotten into a fairly decent college, don’t leave it only because it isn’t an NLU. Also, your college being in Delhi already puts you a few steps ahead of many Tier 2/3 NLUs and that location advantage is huge for internships etc.

Please bear in mind that TIME is the most precious currency in this profession. Don’t waste a year, because five years down the line, that one “extra year” could be used for exploring a new practice area, LLM, work in a different chamber, or anything you can't calculate presently. Focus on building substance: internships, mentorships, court exposure, and consistent learning.

Needless to mention, none of this is applicable if you are some HNI's son/daughter.

Good sir, there's a difference between being positive and making statements that are straight-up idiotic. As someone who sincerely believes that a person writes their own destiny, even I believe university makes a huge difference. Just because someone from a lesser-known university becomes successful, we don't look at that and say it's as good as other top places we look at what the majority achieves. The person is only asking about a partial drop, and in my opinion, this is the best option. They can first take the exam and get a decent rank in the CLAT, and if they're happy with their options, then there's no dilemma, because a partial drop costs virtually nothing in my opinion.

If you don’t get at least a top 10 NLU, SLS-P, JGLS, there’s not a lot of difference between any other NLU, private college or any other law school for that matter.

The good thing about USLLS is it’s locational advantage and the time and freedom it offers you to pave your legal journey on your own, which the other aforesaid law schools may not offer. USLLS does not have the resources that a lot of other aforementioned institutions may offer its students to equip them with necessary skills and knowledge and the college also doesn’t really help you with your career in anyway except maybe a few internships (it’s all based on how you manoeuvre through the next half decade). Also, the crowd is seemingly ambitiously, academically and intellectually bankrupt barring 15-20 students in a batch of ~130 so the classes aren’t something to look forward to. So if you look forward to an academically stimulating environment, this is not a place for you. However, if you want just a degree, locational advantage of easily interning in Delhi for being employable without the help of the law school, and a little bit more freedom than the NLUs, USLLS might just be okay.

Evidently, there’s a lot of weighing in between the little differences and advantages that other law schools might offer.
