So I'll clear your doubt. What sets apart GLC from any other "lax attendance college" is the criteria to get into GLC. 20000 people on an average appear for MHCET out of which top 150 get in. These are the best 150 minds of the state which now have 5 years in their hands to do whatever they want to. Me and many others like me have 20+ months of internship experience, making us conversant with every law there is to know which is 'relevant' to our field of practice. So now at the end of 5 years, we are atleast 2 years ahead in terms of experience all while still being a 'fresher' which makes us best suited for any recruiter.

Well my young friend, i can tell you in my rather humble capacity as a partner who oversees recruitments for his firm, that we prefer students from the GLCs and PGCLs rather than the NLUs. Availability for assessment internships, long term internships and the like, makes evaluation of their suitability for absorption virtually fool proof. Far better to assess someone over a period of time rather than an interview or two where the candidate will obviously try and put on their best face. I suppose one needs to ask oneself - what do I want from my legal education? Do I want to be conversant in Scalian jurisprudence, or, do I want a job? Mind you, the two are not mutually exclusive by any means. There are pros of the GLC/PGCL system and there are cons. For instance, I doubt they would ever get the exposure that a top NLU can afford in terms of moots, debates and research avenues. No point attempting to defecate on other colleges and their systems (supremely pointless IMO). My viewpoint is fairly and broadly reflective of the majority of firms in Bombay.

The simple answer to gaining lost glory would have been to designate GLC as NLU Mumbai, just as the central government has recently designated NITIE as IIM Mumbai, and previously designated REC Roorkee as IIT Roorkee. This rebranding would have got GLC lots of prestige, better quality of students and faculty, more recruiters, etc. More funds too. GLC would have equalled or even overtaken NLSIU. But no, Maharashtra politicians had to do corruption and cater to vote banks, so they built three crappy NLUs in three crappy places. Crores of rupees siphoned off in dodgy construction contracts.

I think Mumbai and Pune should be designated as union territories and governed by the army. Too important to be left in the hands of uneducated goonda politicians.

Is this why all NLU student boards are cribbing on LI as well, crying about how their latest Registrar is screwing them over? At least GLC ha a legacy that is quietly present in Bombay. Should the need come up, as it has now, this network springs into action. Can you say the same regarding your 'corporate' NLU network which has not even provided assistance with hiring in the 2026 batch?

It never was and never will be as good or as meritorious as the top 3 NLUs. Look ant the CLAT ranks of the folks joining GLC. Literally always 4 digits or more. Amazing internship culture? Lol, that’s only because you don’t do any actual studies of the law there. And don’t act as if the majority of GLC alums are not well-connected enough to start with. The college has a brand just like how Syndenham, etc. did. It’s a 19th century brand, and it’s only surviving because its alums perpetuate nepotism in hiring while promoting mediocrity.

As a GLC alum. I really wish I had enough political clout to turn the institution around. It really can be glorious institute like no other law college in the country. We’ve had chief ministers/president/CJI etc as alums but not one has taken upon themselves to turn the college around. It should be made autonomous. The college has amazing internship culture which should be given more support.

Ohh, I wish I could take the college back to its glory days! If I ever reach to a level where I have enough political clout, I would make it my life’s goal to turn this institution around, provided it survives the ▮▮▮ administration till then.
