Hi to all. I cannot describe my firm situation in great detail in order to stay anonymous, but it is as the title says. I (and a couple more) barely have any work assigned by the Partner. A small designated team regularly and intentionally gatekeeps most of the work. We are a small firm. I joined here because I wanted to get experience in a specific area, which I am unable to because the Partner, for some reason, has no intention to let us get any hands-on experience, barring a few. I have previously, on multiple occasions, been vocal with the Partner about this issue, to no avail. [+paid peanuts]
At this juncture, I am fully intent on resigning shortly and moving to a Corp practice area, preferably M&A. The issue is that I have no real experience of M&A deals or any specific related work (or I might, I just don't know what is transferable to another practice area I could showcase to my potential interviewers). I have, in my experience, drafted and reviewed various contracts and given detailed advisory on various topics, almost all of them being business/commercial/tax-related in nature.
I humbly request the more experienced folks to guide me on how to make this switch, what are some good firms/teams to apply to, and if there are any vacancies.
Further info – I am from a mid-tier NLU, having a good academic/co-curricular record. Good money would also make a huge difference in my (and my family's) life.
