I have noticed a sad pattern amongst advocates who run their own chambers. They have stopped hiring clerks in their offices and have started moving/ firing the existing clerk from their offices (excluding the extremely experienced clerks who can get the register work done like no other) I am specifically talking about an average clerk in which category 60-70% of the clerks fall.

The pattern I am noticing is that they rather prefer fresh associates without any experience as they can do both register work and research, drafting "in the same salary". In my humble opinion, the reasons are: 1) you are getting a researcher drafter and clerk in the same salary. 2) a fresh student is usually more sincere and hard-working.

While some think that this is a good thing, if not today, tomorrow that associate will have his own practice, and this experience will help him. But the sad side appears when you come to know that he's doing nothing but registry work, he is drafting some applications here and there and doing some basic research.

If you know, register work, it's good, you should, but if you ONLY do registry work, it's sad and bad for the future.

Let's accept this fact that associates join chambers not to earn money, but to learn the court art. Sadly, they have been reduced to clerks.
