Well, strike me pink! I have rarely encountered the BCI doing anything sensible, but as PSmith says, do not confuse the unusual with the impossible.
Someone tag Mishraji from Jindal here and make him eat his words. He kept on saying on this very platform that Jiggles being an IoE, nobody's approval is needed for those shady online LLMs.
Unfortunately, the tagging of Mishraji will have to be done on LinkedIn, as there is no such feature available here. The sweetness of accountability will be much more there, too, I fancy.
Jindal and IIT Kharagpur are both institutes of eminence. They don’t need permission.
Their degrees won't have any validity if BCI doesn't recognise those.
As per the letter sent by BCI, it's the prerogative of BCI and not UGC when it comes to governing it. So even if UGC gave them IoE tag, it may not matter.
And why should we treat a BCI letter as if it is some sort of god-like authority?
Because BCI governs the right to practise law in this country. You may challenge the letter in a court of law, but otherwise cannot ignore it. They can simply issue an order and not allow graduates from these universities to get enrolled.
You are right, as far as the statement goes. But the qualifying law degree for that purpose is the LLB or BALLB (or BsCLLB and other variations). Those don't necessarily include the power to regulate postgraduate law degrees.
It does if the postgrad people are going to teach the undergrad.
A certain Deputy CM of Haryana has LLM (Professional) from NLUD. Got it courtesy Tauji.
Literally hundreds of judges do the Jindal online LLM every year.
NUJS stopped all those programmes and none of those was an LLM to begin with. BCI doesn't have an issue with diploma or certificates. The MABL could have been an issue, but that's a thing of the past anyway. BCI is trying to stop the existing ones.
Don't understand why the name of IIT KGP, as it doesn't offer any such online course.
even NALSAR LL.M IBL should be under that list on how IICA conducts its functioning
Hey is the offline LLM of 2 years approved by BCI?
LMAO. Does the BCI know that one of the top Modi minister’s kids is at JGLS? Nothing will happen.
