I was allotted NLUO initially during clat and then got HNLU later. So here’s my 2 cents.
On location: I don’t think either place really makes a difference. I would say arguably raipur is a better place to go since it a state capital and you have directe flights to pretty much any part of the country available. Cuttack does not offer the same. Neither are metro cities so the bar remains low.
On mooting: Students from both colleges have thrived in moots on the national and international level.
On Domicile: Lots of people are critical of HNLU’s 50% domicile saying that it dilutes competition. It really doesn’t, people are still super competitive and the kids from domicile often dominate rank lists and placements.
On Alumni: HNLU being an older institution has a much more robust almuni base with several T1 partners, magic circle associates, a few partners at international firms. We have several oxbridge, ivy league and t-20 LLMs too.
Placements: HNLU includes only corp/in house placements in its placement data, whereas NLUO includes anything and everything under the sun as a placement from chambers to assessment internships. HNLU also boasts overall better quality of organisations where students are placed.
