Hi, for everyone's information, the search console has been fixed, and the link to search via Google is still available at the bottom of the search.

We are working on the other raised issues too - we hope to be able to roll out categories soon, so people can filter out conversations they don't like, etc.

I have had exposure to legal cultures outside India as well. I cannot point to anything like the mooting league tables elsewhere, even in places like the UK, where mooting is popular. If my knowledge is lacking, someone please point me to one. I think we need to enhance a spirit of greater collaboration combined with healthy competition, therefore no, I would not bring it back, if I had decision-making powers.

(a) Improve the search console. You can even make a dropdown firm wise (use automation bots to search for keywords) and get all the information related to a firm in one place. Right now, when I search a lot of links I get are of old news article or partner hirings, which are not valid anymore.

(b) Each thread should open in a new tab.

(c) The same thread is displayed multiple times on the home page based on the number of comments its has received. This should be changed and one thread should be visible only once and not 20 times again and again.

(d) Verified accounts to diminish fake news and trolls.

a) I would suggest something like a matrix, say a 4x2 table, each with a seperate topic (each topic should have at least 6-7 ongoing discussions and maybe one or two pinned threads). Maybe something like https://www.theguardian.com/uk. or if you want to take the more direct version with the top links like https://www.rollonfriday.com/

b) pinned would allow the community to focus on some ongoing topics

c) ask for some donation though, I am sure most partners would be happy to spare a few change

d) I am confident that most RCCs would be happy to contribute

e) mooting is one of the few objective parameters that may ever be used to compare performance (can attest that size does not matter). It is transparent (everyone knows who won etc.), quantitative (as long as there are acceptable standards to categorise and score moots), communal (around 10-20% of the batch would participate in some form or other with mooting activities), usually not very costly (except for the phoren ones) etc. As long as we dont get too excited and only take it as a data analytics and reflection, it would be healthy to see how things evolve across the ecosystem.

Why don't we acknowledge the reality? You survive because of this dick measuring. If not for it, people may visit LI - what, once in two months, perhaps? Why not abandon these lofty ideals (lofty because of the fundamental way this platform is designed and the market you are aiming at) and just say that this is a place where people can troll if they like? After all, there is some way we need to vent out our nastier side as well, don't you think?

Thanks for this - a) we are working on, though it will add to moderation burden as there is a potential for abuse. We are looking at some options there. Would you like to be able to still see all at once on the home page and optionally filter? Or just have separate pages for each category?

b) We had implemented pinned comments but it seems to have broken. We'll look at fixing this.

c) A good suggestions but don't think we want to go down the chargeable route... Will discuss.

e) Re mooting - some claim it's the ultimate law school genital measuring contest and just contributes negativity. Others don't think so. Opinions / thoughts?

The law-school d|ck waving became so tiresome, I stopped checking legallyindia. Legallyindia was supposed to be a place where law firm Associates and seniors could ask about firms, teams and practice areas, and people could share insider info. I think the political bickering and law school d|ck waving has driven all the serious people out of legallyindia.

To add to other feedback given: I have never understood, is there a specific way to mark something as 'contested' or do you just give a reason for why something should be marked 'contested' when reporting a comment, and the mod will apply the tag? If there is a button for another user to mark something as 'Contested', I have never been able to access it with the screen reader that I use (as I am completely blind).

Create different sections / forums within LI so that people can focus on the topics that matter to them. Like a college / CLAT section for aspirants and students who want to discuss college related stuff. Career section for questions and discussions on careers, law firms, litigation etc. And a general section to discuss politics, news, which law firm has the most good looking people and such other crap.

just rehashing some of the ideas which have been thrown around for a while:

a) dividing the threads into 5/6 topics like - deals, law firms, prospective students, law schools etc.

b) have pinned comments on topics like phoren llm, law firm salary, firm movements

c) accredited accounts for law firms to post job openings, can charge a token amount

d) verfied accounts for law school RCCs to publish authentic data after the season is over

e) bring back mooting leaderboard (use the excel sheet model of law frim salary), perhaps make it pinned as well

just want to play devil’s advocate here because I see so many people bad-mouthing Legally India, and every time someone sees me using it, they pretty much shame me for it.

The truth is, if you’re not from a legacy law family, being a law student can feel incredibly isolating. I study at a Tier-2 NLU, and the channels of information about things like vacation schemes, moots, PPOs, etc. are very limited. There’s practically no one I can go to with doubts or questions. In such situations, it’s very reaffirming to know that I can always count on Legally India.

I haven’t been on the platform as long as some others, and I agree with a lot of the critiques, but I still think we need to appreciate LI for the platform it is. It helps a lot of law students and lawyers stay connected to the wider legal community. In more ways than one, it shapes conversations and directs the narrative around legal education and careers. Plus, it’s a great place to get general advice.

Before this turns into a full-blown love letter, I’ll stop but ya, credit where it’s due.

1. Less of d*** measuring contests between colleges.

2. Weeding out irrelevant posts- some random statement by some anti Trans or anti immigration guy in Miami gets a post while relevant queries lie in abeyance.

3. Less of college spam: A lot of things like internal politics of SWA of NLSIU is irrelevant to be discussed.

Please tell me then how threads like which NLU is the greatest or second greatest, or ones in which the people working in an organisation (universities, firms etc.) are thoroughly abused by others having no clue about them or their work, help in your self-proclaimed mission of helping and insider knowledge dissemination.

A straightforward question from a long-time user without mincing any word.

This platform owes much of its popularity throughout the years to juvenile inter-law school rivalry and trolling. That has been quite obvious over the years.

Ever since the new IT Rules came into effect and Kian withdrew from the forum, the quality of real or useful news has reduced drastically, which was not unexpected. Unfortunately, it got replaced with mostly trolling, name-calling, abuses aimed at individuals or institutions, political bickering and other toxic attempts at free speech, which was not surprising though undesirable.

In the light of this and given the lofty though fairly arbitrary standards that an occasional moderator has been known to espouse here, here is my question, are you actively trying to leverage toxicity, irrational hatred and abuses in the guise of anonymity and freedom of speech in order to bring back some of the past glory of Legally India or at least to sustain your fleeting relevance in the legal community? If so, then that is of course your prerogative, but at least you owe it to your readers and supporters to come clean about it.

I request the current administrator and ALL the moderators to respond to this, because your individual stance may differ from the forum's. If you don't see any problem with the posts and threads being allowed, then also kindly clarify that, so that we may understand your perspective. I am just doing this as a last-ditch attempt to keep my ties of over sixteen years intact with this platform, rather than leaving it and judging people for their continued and demonstrated association with it from now on. Call it misplaced loyalty or naivete or whatever you will.
