Not worth it tbh, you do get a bit of smoke in your face no matter where you stand close enough to be able to talk to them. The whole smoking culture in law firm is so juvenile. There are 40 year old partners who still have not understood how bad smoking is for one’s health
Sorry to have a go at Gen Z, but this generation is really cracked in the head. Earlier generations were less exposed to information that tobacco is harmful. But now, despite this information being drilled into them since birth, Gen Z still sees smoking as cool.
Bhai,

Never drank or smoked with office people or had non veg

Never talked about cricket or football

Still had many friends in Tier 1 law firms, work on your personality and people skills rather than getting into vices
Carry a cup of tea and say you need a break from screen time. It’s not hard if you don’t overthink it
Smoking with the Associates doesn't mean that you'll be remembered for a job opening or recommendation. Better to not smoke and do good work - be available, be attentive and keep asking for work.
Depends on the place. In my office it is with tea. I don't smoke and just have chai while the others have chai-sutta.
people who work/interned and have been in this situation- are the smoke breaks also accompanied by tea? or is it just smoking? if its the former, then that might help
Never smoked in my life. Doing fairly well without hanging around with smokers during smoke breaks. Don’t worry about socialising etc. Focus on substance and everything else will fall into place.
Cricket or Football. Always works for me. Its anyway cricket and football season, lots of things to speak and talk about.
