I recently cleared MH CET with a 99.395 percentile. I'm an OMS candidate and a full-time senior banking professional with a strong interest in studying law.
Like many others in my situation, I wasn't looking for placements or internships. What I wanted was the brand. GLC, Mumbai โ the name, the legacy, the alumni network. Thatโs what drew me in.
But hereโs what Iโve been reading and hearing from students and recent alumni:
1. 1. A principal who is allegedly inaccessible and unresponsive
2. 2. Administrative disarray bordering on incompetence
3. 3. No structured academic calendar
4. 4. No real guidance or support from the faculty
5. 5. Delayed results year after year
6. 6. Infrastructure that's falling apart
7. 7. Rigid and outdated attendance rules with no empathy for working professionals
8. 8. Visible institutional decline โ academically and operationally
9. 9. A lack of inclusivity, with clear signs of nativism creeping in
For someone juggling a demanding job and serious academic intent, this is more than discouraging โ it's appalling. The more I dig, the more it feels like GLC survives on inertia, not intent.
So Iโm now seriously reconsidering. KCLC or NLC may not have the historic branding, but they appear to have more structure, more responsiveness, and frankly, more respect for students' time and circumstances.
Would love to hear from others โ especially those in similar shoes or with recent experience at these colleges. What would you do if you were in my place? The counselling window is almost here.
They have no other work to do!!
Look calling urself a โHelpless and Depressed student of GLCโ means you have nothing else in your life to do!
U have based your entire identity on the college! And all u need is the college to get better so u can get out of depression! Grow up kid ! And get mature! All this nonsense must be stopped! U under the power of anonymity feel that starting an outrage against the college will gain you your self respect and remove u out of ur so called depression and helplessness! Seriously!!!
Being helpless becuz of a college doesnโt make any sense!!!
And ranting and starting an outrage is all you have done! Instigating people for something!!
Putting allegations is real easy but having any substance i dont feel so!
And its funny calling yourself a helpless and depressed human!! Seriously how can a college make u that????
Coming from different legal education systems and colleges of the country, I have realized that five-year LLB courses are quite long and must shrink to four years. This four-year course should be professional and in sync with the courts, subject-wise. I strongly believe in this way, both students and the legal industry will be benefitted. Considering the current scenario, if a student has five years of bachelor in law, then five years of practice, which makes ten long years. When will a student settle? Just like medical or engineering, undergraduate law courses must be shrunk to four years. Also, during this period, students should be directly attached with courts or lawyers, so that they attain practical knowledge.
All this feels like a sponsored attempt to malign a person!!!!!!!
Wow nobody spoke when there was no proper principal for 25 years and when things are happening better people complain just because they are not allowed to do internship! Grow up kid
Come out of this keyboard warrior mindset!
And yes doing internship is just picking up files and taking it here and there! What do u even actually learn!! Do u even have foundational knowledge built properly! Ur a student not a person who will learn something by practice! U know what a person who tries only to learn by practice is called! A labour!!!!
They have no other work to do!!

If you dismiss committees as useless, your argument weakens, leaving only a rant. Instead, approach this systematically. Every element matters, but balance is key. You canโt push for change while ignoring the necessity of a structured systemโespecially when concern was absent as long as the lack of structure was convenient. Itโs as if mismanagement wasnโt a problem until it started affecting comfort, and only then did it become a concern.
If you have so much problem with college change your college from 2nd year, nmims or NLU as you suggested , go there please.
I myself have problem with the college but just bcoz your attendance is weak and some faculty doesnโt allow you to write exam, then the college is bad???
Just classic example of blaming the situation and putting the blame on someone else.....with no accountability of self... i have friends who have graduated from GLC... who said 10 years back too there were hardly any lectures held... old faculties have gone, so new are hired, laws updated in last 3 to 5 years, new rules and laws added, and u would want writer of the constitution to be your faculty .
This institute once held prestigious Palkhivala Tax Moot. But lost the trust to MNLU after its emergence. This institute once had participants from Oxford and Harvard for participation. But now limited to national colleges. It once had foreign student exchange. Now? When I type GLC into Google, first search comes of a Mercedes car. This is the importance and stature of 150 year old college. Location and behold the trojan horse. Hollow from inside.
(continuing)โฆ..and the institutional greatness of GLC is slowly withering away, just like its infrastructure (the College is going through the noisiest and longest โrenovationโ ever). God bless us.
What do you think will happen to us if we protest? These professors that she has gone after are experienced in their fields and leaving GLC won't cause them much harm, but us? If she comes after us, our entire career will be in jeopardy.
She is genuinely is propoganda Maschine in herself. Which propoganda is quite well known to each and every student of GLC, including those supporting her. In pursuance of the same two other cultural committee (Gujrati and Urdu) are no longer functional, even their nominal presence is absent.
She despise even marathi speaker doing anything other than cultural fest that is why Marthi Moot Court Association has not been able to organise a single moot court competition.
The college has failed to organise SC visit, Delhi Study Tour, Alumni Meet.
There is a registered Alumni Association of the college someone who knows who whose should contact them. Seems our Alumni too have abandoned us.
The college governing council must make a note and so do Alumni of this no longer prestigious college that there is still time, college can still be saved, debate discuss dialogue should be the prime key. Delegates should be sent to Ministers, UGC and BCI.
Anyone who is having enough political support or can muster political support shall start agitation why wait, if VC of RGNLU could be changed, many more things can happen. And yes a curse to AdHoc students council, we need a Full autonomous and powerful and functional students bar association.
And here I want to address one more thing - many students got a call for getting admission througlysab money 15 lakhs something and you would get admitted in glc , by reading your article and the main part principal is so greedy for money then this can happen also that they only considered this paitra!!
Rather than this I'm genuinely concern for college administration you all should protest and raised your voice everyone would help you out for sure every damm student.
Aap log law college me ho you should file pil sab milke and even they don't even know basic maths or basic legal terms then yh toh badhia mauka h un logon ko sirf court m sikhane ka :)) Please raised your voice please for every damn student specially future students. ๐๐ปโค๏ธโ๐ฉน
The Supreme leader of GLC was not there but โฎโฎโฎ was there. โฎโฎโฎ. Now, not being able to speak in English isn't a bad thing, but for a professor of a law college of all things, it is sine non qua.
Also since everyone is focusing on the negatives let me highlight the positives since everyone coin has two sides and even on earth its not dark every where at all times there is sunlight!! The college provides a great experience of academic and extracurricular education.
Till now the teaching has been quite insightful and student friendly! There is also flexibility for those with jobs and other commitments.
Faculty is also approachable!
Students are interactive, helpful and engaging!
Job opportunities are also plenty!
However it might be more skewed towards the Five year LLb course compared to 3 year as far as I have heard since firms prefer 5 year students.
But overall the journey has been great till now!
1. Programmes are conducted on a regular basis for students to develop an interest in law.
2. As far as I have seen almost all the committees are actively engaged in different activities most of the time.
3. The canteen and other infrastructure is being developed. Look i feel students need to have some street smartness. Its a construction activity. It definitely takes some time so please be calm and let things happen and once that will be ready obviously it will be for the benefit of students
4.New courses are being introduced like certificate courses on Direct and Indirect tax. I have a first hand experience of that and they are amazing.
5. The library is also accessible and open for students to sit and study. This is not a school that we should expect spoon feeding for every single thing. We hopefully are grownups thus we should focus much more on studying.
6. Also the students portal is now made open so we can discuss whatever the complaints are with the principal directly. So rather than debating it here that has the most potential to yeild a solution on the effectiveness and efficacy parameter.
7. As far as i have interacted with the Principal she was very helpful and interactive. Also she was patient in listening all doubts and problems. Also she is approachable and never discards students and very much open to feedback.
So i feel we are grown up students and we should stop this cry baby mindset and seek help on a website that shall do nothing. Rather focus on positives. Also what i have noticed is that students actively enjoy participating in these programs and activities but on the other hand put blame on one person. This somewhere sounds like hypocrisy. And the internship part is i feel a subject of debate. Since what internships give u is a certificate for doing clerical level stuff rather than actual learning. It might also be positive. Most importantly i feel people are happy when things go according to them but hate when it goes against them. There are international students as well. Look i have been a student of engineering and the principals there dont even interact with students. Atleast the principal here is open to feedback. My experience has been great till now
Issue 1: The Committees
It was the contention of the top comment that some committees are unnecessary in a law college, but NAAC accreditation would be significantly lower had we not had the Cultural Committee or the Marathi Mandal. When we read GLC do we really forget its identity as a college? It is not merely a law institute. Fests are important to a college as important as its academics and ancillary co-curricular activities. Its Maharashtra, why not a Marathi Mandal that handles the vernacular side of collegiate fests? It would be subjective and redundant to restrict our views to arguing on the individual capability of Committees. The only takeaway from this issue should be the Principal's conduct with the Committees and her biased nature towards some. The Senior Cores of the respective Committees alongwith the Student Council should remind the Principal of their necessity in this College and that too with the statistics they need to back themselves up. If the Principal still persists on such biased conduct then the Committees and the student should take it up with her superior authority.
Issue 2: Corruption in GLC
Corruption and Government institutes are oftentimes synonymous, although we should not be assumptious in dealing with them and nor can we turn a blind eye simply by labelling the staff of GLC as a "lost cause". If we have the statistics then we demand an explanation for the unexplained revenue and lack of reasoning then allows us two routes ( do correct me if I'm wrong ), a police complaint or a complaint to a higher authority. Corruption is another evil in society and has to be dealt with as they come. Student Council's shoulders are heavy with yet another responsibility but alas that's the job description.
Issue 3: Handling Internship and Attendance
One of the most important bullet points an interviewer notices on your rรฉsumรฉ is the longevity of your internship and they have their rightful reasons for the same. However the world outside has unrealistic demands from Law students and these are often made to work like a clerk but on the pay of a Guard. There is rampant exploitation in the corporate field for young pre-lawyers. At the end of this issue I will affix a link or two regarding one Supreme Court regarding the decrepit status-quo of the current generation of lawyers and their approach towards this field. For those who wish to know more do look up Justice Abhay S. Oka's speech on the Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition. To continue with the issue, and I am venturing into a controversial area, since the students are wishing to intern earlier than is thought of by MU ( 4th Year was the standard ipso facto of its early morning classes ) then the classes should be conducted early morning, leaving the students with untethered time for their internship and personal indulgement/s. 3rd Year might be the correct time for the students to begin early morning lectures to match their rรฉsumรฉ needs. Simultaneously, an appeal with the state Bar Council to issue parameter guidelines for offices offering internships should be placed. It is the practice of corporates and offices to hire interns on no salary or a sub-par salary whilst making them work full hours or even overclock to meet the Office deadlines. The State Bar Council has the appropriate authority to look into such matters and can also issue guidelines and/or refer this matter to the appropriate authorities for further deliberation. However this can not be a one student job and as I have previously mentioned, a concert of students is required for effective dealing with this issue.
https://lawchakra.in/legal-updates/justice-abhay-s-oka-to-law-students/
Got one more issue to frame but due to time constraints I will reserve it in another reply to this comment. Do help me out with the issue framings, it can serve as a good reference material only if it is attended to by all of you GLC'ers. Do remember things don't change unless you change.
The whole NAAC thing was a sham, it was all a farce, the โgymkhanaโ of the College is covered in bird poop. The library is poorly stocked, the teaching is sub-par, and we definitely should not discuss the infrastructural issues with GLC.
Even after this online anonymous outrage by students, which is hardly a respite, we know for a fact that a protest or any sort of actual outrage is not possible in an institution like ours because the chance of you making enemies from the administration is invariably higher than even the slightest chance of a decent and honest dialogue between the College and its students.
In short, the novelty, legacy,
The student committees recieve less money than promised and are always told about how the college is low on cash.
They have now implemented a shoddy digital attendance system that doesn't even work properly. Moreover, previously, teachers would forge attendance. Now, teachers tell students they have no time for a lecture so give Attendance and leave.
There are very few decent classes to conduct lectures in. There is either construction work going on in classrooms, or the windows are all boarded up, or are so dirty that even the teachers request us to search for a different class.
And let's not forget the professors themselves. There are very few professors who are actually competent. Most are quite incompetent and do not know how to teach. There are some who are disinterested in teaching and prefer to talk about their ideological/political beliefs, some beliefs that reading the textbook of their own subject disproves, and they give good marks to only those who they perceive to believe in their beliefs.
Then there are those who act so vindictively towards students as if they have a personal vendetta against us. And then there are professors who will give you poor marks in viva/presentation for no reason, I've had a semester where this specific professor have most students between 14-18 and only a few students got about 20.
I even had a professor who, during vivas, required to quote the definitions from the acts that they are written in. One of my friends has wanted to work in arbitration and has interned in that direction since the very first year. After asking a few questions on arbitration, the professor declared that since he didn't quote the definitions from the acts, he will give him no marks for viva and proceeded to grade him only on his assignment.
Why would any student want to join such an institution. And from what I've heard, and opposition to how things are going seems to result in vindictive action from the administration. Even senior professor Ratho wasn't immune to this(I expect you guys already know about that case).
GLC in my opinion is done. If anyone you know wishes to join the institution, recommend that they don't. For those who are students in GLC, keep your head down and just graduate unless you are willing to risk being targetted by professors and the administration
I'm an ex student of GLC, batch of 2024. GLC staff is incompetent, lazy and straight up rude. They don't do any of their jobs properly. Our batch is facing difficulties in getting enrollment in any state bar council outside of Maharashtra. Because the college has not completed its enrollment with the BCI. GLC only had validity till the year 2020 and not beyond. We have been trying to get our enrollment since September 2024 and the college staff kept ignoring us and refused to help. Especially Siddesh Sir from the admin department. He kept disconnecting our calls and said that we can't do anything.
@Mod: Please feel free to correct me if my interpretation is wrong.
Now it's our responsibility to caution all the young minds about the situation. Please avoid GLC. Don't come here with high (or any) hopes.
"Attendance - the attendance does not get updated regularly. It is redundant to put mandatory attendance on final year students as they should be free to intern. For e.g.- Symbiosis Law School, NIRMA, etc has system of last year internships.
Faculty - The main concern with GLC is substandard faculty. Students wouldn't have a problem to attend college if the college had quality professors. We feel that we can study more at internships than at college. The substandard education will result in substandard students and bad alumni base. We will soon deplete in good alumni base and face a regressive phase.
Lack of communication - It is important to have communication between students-professors-principal. The principal lacks prompt decision making and when any decision is taken, they are not communicated with professors. It makes the attempt of students vague and result in frustration and sense of disappointment towards college.
Other- Principal needs to take responsibility and bring swift changes whenever needed. She shall address students and not delay them. Students do not feel inclusive. They are put out of loop. There cannot be a college environment unless there are professors and administratives who can understand foster the environment. The administration needs to study new and better college structures, such as those followed by NLUs and implement them immediately.
The gradual decline of college is evident with aggravated behaviour of students towards college's actions, such as various petitions filed in courts. Lesser and lesser placements shows the declining interest of Law Firms. One cannot find an alumni from recent years or current students who can give positive remarks regarding college. We feel very much disassociated with the college.
Last and sincere request, please don't transform the college into a school. Let student's voice be heard and make positive transformations. It will be a matter of time when GLC will be just another City College if it does not keep up with changing times."
It wouldn't have harmed them to maybe cut off one of the NLUs and focus on already established college, that has rich (but farce) heritage to it.
I have never seen a college that is out to get it's students like this. They make studying in this college impossible.
The Principal โฎโฎโฎ, she asks to get the bonafide application signed by all professors and if you donโt have adequate attendance bonafide certificate will not be issued. โฎโฎโฎ she donโt understand the very purpose of the bonafide certificate, why do you need professors sign, attendance for it?
โฎโฎโฎ did not even allowed students to appear for Presentations and Vivas due to lack of attendance, and students were scored out of 20 and not out of 40. When we complained of the same to Principal, after begging to allow us to score properly, โฎโฎโฎ agreed to conduct internals for remaining 10 marks. โฎโฎโฎ she deliberately made it so difficult and conducted along with โฎโฎโฎ (another stigma). The questions asked had connection neither to the topic nor to the subject.
I am seeing students from Tier 2/3 colleges are scoring better than us. NLUs, ILS and other college students are performing better in competitions and winning them. Their college provides research platforms, mentors, they even conduct practice sessions before going to such competitions.
I came to GLC with lot of hope, but with my hope this institution is going down the line with speed of light. Whatever โizzatโ is left is because of the meritorious students who are self studying for exams, self learning all the skills, trying to intern at good places, working their butt off to make it in this profession. All my batchmates/friends are fade up of these people. There are no good faculty left. And whoever is there, like Daswani sir and Pithawalla sir are also fade up of the principal, โฎโฎโฎ.
Change in the administration and a competent Principal only will change the current situation.
She joined as principal in my last year of college and thank god I was nearly done then. I cannot begin to imagine how bad things may have gotten since then.
Starting with the complete โฎโฎโฎ of the Principal, who struggles โฎโฎโฎ, is disconnected with students and her appointment itself is been โฎโฎโฎ as mentioned in the article below. She has suppressed the core law activities in the college. She and the admin have made it difficult for each and every important committee to function, including the ADR Cell, Moot Court Association and even the Placement Committee. She on a regular basis declines permissions to these important cells for conducting events only to end up giving permissions for Marathi Mandal and Cultural Committee two of the most useless committees in the college. She has managed to get GLC a extremely poor NAAC assessment by her sheer โฎโฎโฎ, and is now punishing the students for speaking up against her in from of NAAC.
Half the data that has been submitted to NAAC is โฎโฎโฎ. There are no research platforms provided to us, except the ones Government provides for free like NList, there is no Access to any rare book library or gymkhana either. The College is covered with dust, there are no windows, windows are covered with asbestos sheets instead. Upon a mere RTI one can find the sheer โฎโฎโฎ and โฎโฎโฎ going on โฎโฎโฎ.
The Administration itself is โฎโฎโฎ. They have tried to introduce Biometric attendance, which 90% of the times doesn't record our attendance or records it in some random subject we don't even have. They don't follow university timelines to declare results, our revaluation results come well after half a year. They can not even print our marksheets correctly. We ourselves have to go and show them the mistakes they have made, and if we are late in doing that they fine us! How ridiculous is that?? We are expected to be on time but the office staff will not come in before 11 and will leave before 4 pm. Not to mention the one hour lunch break.
GLC has the most, incompetent Law permanent faculty. Professors like โฎโฎโฎ โฎโฎโฎ, โฎโฎโฎ โฎโฎโฎ who enforce attendance so strictly, don't even know the basics of law. โฎโฎโฎ. There is a case going on against โฎโฎโฎ for not following the MU rules while enforcing attendance. But one can not blame โฎโฎโฎ because โฎโฎโฎ. Both of them have made students beg and cry for letting them write papers.
Coming to attendance, GLC had excellent professors up until a few years ago. Ever since โฎโฎโฎ was appointed, the quality has dropped. They literally take walk in interviews for faculty that's how bad the situation is. As a recourse students started interning full time to secure jobs, which also Asmita is against. God forbid someone mentions internship in front of โฎโฎโฎ. I believe โฎโฎโฎ.
Please juniors please listen to me. People who are serious about getting jobs atleast, people who are considering joining GLC. Don't come here. Juniors transfer to ILS, NMIMS even PGCL ffs. I am telling you, I used to defend GLC to anyone and everyone. Its just never going to be the same anymore. I have attached a few links below. Anyone who doesn't believe me come to GLC for just a day, you will see what is going on. For the people who already are neck deep into their degree, we need to put Vaidya in her place. Suggest any and every idea you have to fight this, as a reply. I am doing this anonymously because I don't know how much support I have. If I get enough support we can start some offline action.
This is also a cry for intervention, to our Alumni if any on LI. Please please help us. To the counsels in HC, to the Partners in Law firms and to the Members of the Advisory Committee please help us.
