That's because you aren't reading extensively. People have been named above who are not writing about tech and AI only from IP perspective only. Check platforms like arxiv, Google Scholar, Scopus and Web of Science to find those papers. You may also check with techies about which legal academics and practitioners they are collaborating with for their research in the domain.

Name a few then... Moreover tech law,. especially data related does have good scholarship even from SE Asian and African countries. It's just that Indian legal scholars are following herd mentality and just limiting themself to IPR. Also, IITs would not research the legal aspects of AI or Tech, that's where we are supposed to step up. Even IITKgp is focusing on IPR.

'Tech law' as an area of practice is very closely associated with public policy & comp sci. Good scholars in the field aren't necessarily going to have a traditional legal background, or be in NLUs.
As for AI - no one in India understands it (beyond IPR in AI), apart from maybe IITs. There is no Indian law on it yet. So frankly its a premature field in law. What you should consider is faculty teaching 'Regulatory Affairs'.

The faculty for such programs are often not an expert in the subject. Some experts are also not that good. Eg: there's a cyber law expert in one of the NLUs, often called in for delivering lectures. She knows jack shit, with all due respect. The research papers are also of poor quality, just repeating IT Act provisions.

Arul has kept himself limited to only the IP aspects of tech law so far. Neither of these two has got sizable quality publications either in the field of law and tech either, although Arul I know is an excellent scholar in the IP domain. The other person appears to be too young to be considered as a leading voice in anything as yet.

I genuinely can't believe how dense majority of people here are. The OP asked for tech laws, which would encompass data, AI and maybe cyber at the most. Yet people are suggesting profs that have nothing to do with tech law.

For example people are citing two profs from NLS; Dr Arul Scaria, who is an IPR expert, and majority of his publications are IPR related, and Dr Rahul Hemrajani, who may be considered since he definitely does teach AI, but even he has not published any research on AI.

I hope it's not a case of bootlicking just cause they're from NLS and have a foreign degree.

On the other hand; OP you should check out faculty from GNLU, NUJS and NLIU. Since they have centres of law and tech/cyber. So you may find faculty that's working in the field. NLIU for example also has a MSc and PhD in Cyber to offer. So you may find faculty that's teaching.

In the other hand, Tech law is a vastly new field in the world, and in India majority are trying to associate ipr or even cyber with tech law. Whereas, tech law specifically is about data information,systems and infrastructure. So be clear whether it's IPR, cyber, ai, data or tech.

Bahaha... People don't even know what tech law means. Both the scholars are definitely doing well in their respective fields, but they're not tech related. Dr Arul is an IPR expert, and you can easily see that most of his papers are IPR related like copyrights. Dr Rahul has just started to tech AIs and hasn't yet published any decent research on tech law. Just cause they're from NLS or have a foreign phd, doesn't mean they're an expert on it.

hpnlu peeps might not agree but aayush raj for IT law, dude's a grade A asshole but gotta give credit where its due, he gave amazing readings and actually discussed things while delving into so many related aspects in class (unlike his certain collegues who think bare act on its own is enough for a subject)
