What is an appropriate time to start working on writing something in law school and getting a publication under my name? How should I go about this? Should I approach a professor or a senior for help? Should I consider a co-author? Should I try writing articles or essays or something for a journal? What are some prestigious journals to be published in? Sorry I am clueless about this

As soon as possible; even if you're in your first year, get started! Consider all of the scenarios you've listed down, whichever you think will help you get started writing at the earliest. Start with blogs etc, and then consider writing for publications. Writing and publishing a well-analysed blog can help you in not only analysing legal issues better, but also develop your writing and drafting skills. Publishing good work also gets attention and can take you places! I got one of my earliest tax internship with a Senior Advocate just based on the fact that the Senior had read my then recently published piece and found it very interesting. So yes, as soon as possible.
