What I've observed is that :
1. The worthiness depends on what you want in life. I know you must be confused between corporate law, litigation, and judiciary, as all of them are entirely different in terms of lifestyle. You need to decide what you truly want at the end of the day.
If you want to settle in big cities and are attracted to the money (which, after deductions, isn’t as significant as it seems), or if you want to contribute to society, it all depends on your aspirations and the background you come from.
2. Yes, it is somewhat difficult to reach the High Court this way, as far as my knowledge is concerned. If you join at the age of 23–24, the chances are that you may end up at the High Court. But becoming a District Judge is almost certain.
3. I’ve just started my preparation. It depends on whether you opt for coaching or self-study. Coaching helps streamline things to some extent, but either way, it usually takes at least a year to prepare thoroughly.
Just a tip:
Don’t base your decision solely on LI posts. Think deeply about what you want in life. Many graduates from Tier-1 NLUs also join the judicial services. For instance, in 2024, a NALSAR alumnus was selected as a Judicial Officer in Haryana. I also know someone from NALSAR who is now a CJM in Haryana. Also there are many toppers from NLUJ in RJS, from NLIU in MPCJ & DJS.
Don’t let your batchmates’ decisions influence you. Instead, focus on your background and what you genuinely want in life.
