Let’s call it what it is: this designation isn’t about building a robust legal career. It’s a branding exercise, the same way Supreme Court AoRs flash their titles for clout. “I’m special because I’m a Supreme Court lawyer!” becomes “I’m Senior Advocate, DHC!” It’s all smoke and mirrors.
And for the NLS grads who also made the list this time—don’t start singing meritocracy’s praises just yet. Each of them brought connections and influence to the table from day one. The difference? At least they’ve got the receipts: a body of serious appearances to back their application.
The whole spectacle is an indictment of the system. If this is the benchmark, maybe it really is time to quit litigating.
Let’s be real: litigation isn’t a dumping ground for trust-fund toddlers or directionless mediocrities anymore. The game is changing, and the ones who’ve got the guts, brains, and flair are rising to the top. Sure, there are a few eye-roll-inducing exceptions on this list—proof that nepotism is a stubborn weed—but they’re just that: exceptions.
And yeah, I get it. Every single NLS grad here probably swims in privilege so deep they can’t even see the surface. But can we talk about this being Delhi’s first power flex from Naagarabhaavi?
GLC Bombay I can understand, but CLC, with thousands every year for 70 years can barely show even one great senior.
I don't think so you practice, anyone claiming CLC didn't give great lawyers and jurists can either be a laymen or some law firmite.
