However, here’s the problem: I applied for the position of a trainee and was invited for an interview—something I’d been waiting for since July. But during the interview, when the AAG reviewed my CV, she said she wasn’t hiring freshers at the moment. Ironically, she was the one who had confirmed the interview. After some back-and-forth, she reluctantly agreed to let me join. It didn’t feel like she was interested in me or the conversation, though.
The offer was disappointing. She didn’t offer me the official trainee position or even a minimal stipend, like ₹2,000 for petrol expenses. She said, “What’s the difference between an intern and a trainee? It’s the same.” I decided to give it a shot anyway, hoping things would improve.
On my first day, I was handed a file and told to research the issue. When I asked for guidance or background, she responded, “You’ve studied law, haven’t you? Figure it out.” I did the research, but there was no feedback or acknowledgment. From the second day onward, I’ve mostly been tasked with drafting (LODs)
Today, I was scolded for not doing things “properly.” I was told to attend a court hearing, but no case details were shared. My day now involves sitting in court from 10 AM to 4 PM, taking notes on what the judge says. When I try to explain what I’ve been doing or ask for clarity on my tasks, she doesn’t listen. Worse, I’ve been told, “If you can’t perform, it’s better you leave.”
I feel stuck. I’m doing my part by attending court hearings, documenting the judge’s comments, and completing assignments, but there’s no communication, feedback, or support. During my internships, I had far better interactions with associates who guided me through tasks. Here, I can’t even ask for direction without being dismissed with, “You’ve studied law, right?”
What should I do? How do I handle this situation when there’s no room for discussion or mentorship, and now I’m being threatened with termination?
Second money, bro money is everything and everything. You can still try to survive a toxic place if it else gives you good money to endure it untill the end of the month. But thats not the case with your story. Then why are you even there at this place bro? I am sure you will find something else that has atleast either of the two factors - good work culture or money. And if you are getting neither of it here, what's the point?
And then later that day, she just drops this bombshell out of nowhere - 'if you don't show improvement, leave'. When I'm desperately trying to explain the details of the proceedings I've already completed, she's not willing to listen to a single word I have to say.
If they're disrespecting you and you're feeling sad. Remember, the world is filled with sadists.
Next time, if she scolds you for no good reason, just smile and say sorry. That smile, will change her perception. Trust me and trust god.
