Although my grades were average, my mooting was exceptional. Won really reputed moots and had decent publications. More than day, my team was in-general very impressed of my candidature based on my day to day interaction.
Hence, my whole team pushed for my PPO.
Exceptions- CAM, TT&A, Saraf and SAM are pedantic about grades at all fresher interactions. Even S&R but its wierd. Even with good feedback, they largely care a hell lot about grades, in the order of firms mentioned. However, you quickly realise once you join these firms, how that attitude affects work life and pay, how they are ruthless and not in a good interesting challenging way, but heart attack risky way.
I may be wrong and correct me on this, but Trilegal and Khaitan arent so anal about batch ranks. However, their interviews are significantly gruelling. The firms mentioned before have relatively simpler rounds. Or round.
JSA and the others are as arbitrary as you can get on fresher recruitments, so I would like insiders to give comments.
AFAIK ICUL is also particular about grades, but noone ends up choosing them. AZB largely does not care as much in comparison but is exceptionally toxic nevertheless.
Please be content that this is limited to fresher recruitment. If you have even 6 months of experience in a corporate practice areas, just see how doors open up. HRs literally cold mail and irritate people at A3-4 levels, SA levels. PA+ levels always have vacancies everywhere honestly. i know people with three digit ranks, who flunked years, worked up their way through T3 firms and are equity partners at T1 firms like CAM and SAM, literally employing others under them and making insane money. I suggest you politely mail such people, and I cannot stress politely enough, for help. But they can only open internship ops/ assessment ops for you, you still have to work hard enough than others with better ranks, and work your ass off better than any associate. Dress well, speak well, communicate with seniors and make a really good impression, and no batch rank or college will stop you.
