Please rethink about criminal litigation - if for nothing else than the single reason that our Court's physical infrastructure is extremely pathetic for females. Most Courts don't even have clean wash-rooms (& am guessing that female wash-rooms are as bad as men's).
Salary and power-structures - others here have already commented well.
White collar crime/ POSH/ advisory may be a more appropriate and financially rewarding route.
Directly pursuing litigation would be a difficult choice financially. You can try interning with a corporate team as well as a disputes team (especially one that deals with white collar crimes) in smaller firms. This will maybe give you some perspective and help you make a more informed choice.
Since you're still in your second year, talking to seniors who have interned with such teams or have secured jobs in such teams will be immensely helpful. If you are in a good college, have good grades (as you said), and try your best, you can secure internships in corp and disputes team of smaller firms in your third year.
Afterwards you can try to get an assessment internship in the practice area of your liking in a tier 2 or tier 1 firm and work your way to an offer maybe. I know it is not as easy at sounds, but talking to good seniors (preferebly those who are similarly placed) can be very helpful.
Making it to a job opportunity in a team working in general corporate or related areas is considered slightly easier so you can keep that in consideration too. Though I am not aware about how easily can you switch your practice area later.
