Once the year is over you will realise that some of this was you being hyper focused on politics and others being hyper focused on politics. I have many friends across the political spectrum and did so while I was in college even when my batch largely split along political lines. The way to do it was to not talk politics and instead talk to people. If you want good friends- be a good friend. And avoid people who are making politics their entire identity, too.

In my opinion you should avoid discussing political views and should kept within yourself . you just observe other people thoughts and try to analyze in your mind internally and try to chose your group wisely on your observation .
