As long as BJP held all the power Arghya was pro-BJP. Now that he has to cosy up to others he is writing things that he can show them to say he is neutral. This also helps him convince international liberals to continue to be his friends. You have nothing to lose by slamming a CJI whose term has ended and everything to gain.

There's a strong clique that dominates the Supreme Court Bar, and this clique is vociferously anti-BJP + Modi. Make no mistake, they have no patience for moderates either. Watching Chandru do puja with Modi put Chandru in the same shitlist as the Late Pranab Mukherjee in their eyes. His Ayodhya judgment and divine revelation were the final nails in his liberal coffin

It’s not sudden. Many people-even on the left already had problems with DYC and were vocal about it. Others who kept quiet during his tenure for career reasons no longer find the need to do so. I don’t think he has demonstrated integrity to the country no. I think he’s demonstrated legacy drive ? And careerism ? So that’s something ?

I was going to post on this same topic regarding Arghya Sengupta. He has been toeing a pro-BJP line, but yesterday wrote an article slamming Chandrachud for praying to god before the Ayodhya verdict. What’s going on??🤔🤔🤔🤔

As someone who observes the news closely, I have come to notice that certain quarters of the media, in active collusion with key power centres in the bar, are being excessively harsh on the Learned CJI, and that too right before his demiting office. Dushyant Dave was particularly unforgiving in his critique (see the interview he gave this week to Thapar on the Wire). Now, even the powers that be at the SCBA (without even consulting its own members, like me), are using their clout, questioning DYC for “unilaterally” altering/ embellishing (I’d rather say enhancing and updating) the get up of Lady Justice. I for one believe that DYC is doing a stellar job as CJI - miles ahead in many key aspects compared to his predecessors, integrity being one of them. Like, I joined this profession when KGB was the chief, so ya! 🤦🏻🤷🏻 I believe that we’ve come to an unfortunate point where the hunger for power has gotten so desperate, rabid and out of hand, they’ll throw stones on anything and everything - even when there’s hardly any reason to.
