I would like to really understand the long term scope of an IBC practice. Some good senior lawyers have told me recently that IBC /NCLT practice is mostly procedural, and not full of substantive legal/tax issues for growth/ exposure. I am a small time litigator with my very small IBC practice but I wondering whether I am wasting my professional time in this IBC solo practice ? It's OK money wise it pays the bills but what is the opportunity cost I am missing out on ? Should I move to another practice area within litigation?

I agree with the senior lawyers view. For a solo lawyer this will not really give you the exposure and base to grow as a professional. It's a highly procedural practice and not high on substantive law. Few teething issues were there in the new law so still some key judgements came out. Don't expect much jurisprudence in this area to develop over time. Bigger law firms or senior counsel manage this as they charge higher and have a team. Yes you may consider another practice area like arbitration or commercial litigation, but getting regular briefs remains an issue for few years till you establish a name.

Bump. I am facing the same issue. I practice before NGT. But find it just procedural. Do District Courts enable a more substantive outlook? It's been only 8 months since I have started practice. I don't do District Court since I find it outdated and retarded, with babus/people hard to deal with. Will it be a good idea to shift to a senior/mentor in High Court for varied law and substantive law?
