I'm a first generation female lawyer and i have been in practise for the past two years and recently I joined another chamber to learn criminal work. My senior is a good lawyer and has a great practise. He practises here at Indore. My previous senior recommended me to him. For the first few days, my senior treated me well, but after that he stopped even acknowledging me. He barely gave me any files, all i get is somewhat drafting work. He has a son who's also in practise and he gets to do all the work. At first, I thought it might be temporary and he would eventually acknowledge me and assign me a file, but it has been quite some time and he still hasn't given me any files. Also, to make things worse, his son is very arrogant and doesn't even talk to me nicely. He shouts at me at the smallest instance or mistake. I feel so anxious around him. Moreover, my senior doesn't even notice me in court and would just ignore me and would talk to other people. I'm feeling so neglected at this chamber,my previous senior was great and he treated me well. Here I'm neither getting paid nor I'm getting any work. Should I quit? I don't know what to do.

He wants you to move on. His son is his only priority. Though, what your senior is doing is nothing new in this profession. litigation is only about "kith and kin". If you are a first generation lawyer, you will face this in chambers, you will face this in courts, you will face this in getting reference for work and you will face this if you aspire to become a HC judge someday. Advice from me to you - learn to live with it and concentrate to improve your skills. It takes time but it is doable. Most of these kith and kins are nobodies without their support, so not much of a competition. Patience and consistence is the key.
