I'm writing this because I can't keep quiet anymore about what's happening here. This isn't the college experience I signed up for, and I'm beyond frustrated.

Let's start with the millipede situation. How does a college let this happen? We were suddenly thrown into online classes with barely any notice. I stayed in the hostel because they said it would only be two weeks. Two weeks turned into a month! That's a huge chunk of my first semester gone.

While stuck in the hostel, I got sick with dengue AND typhoid. The water here is terrible, and the sanitation is a joke. We've asked for help repeatedly, but it feels like no one cares about us first-years.

The online bullying is out of control. Some of my classmates are talking about hurting themselves because it's so bad. We tried to complain, but there's no real system in place. When we finally got through to the admin, they brushed us off. It's suffocating.

To top it all off, they cancelled our freshers' events because of some fight between the senior years I have also heard this year they are not organising the garba event as big as it happens every year like it's gonna be small closed event because the cultural committee of our campus is yet to be constituted.Is this really what college is supposed to be like? Because if it is, I want out.

I came here excited to make friends and learn new things. Instead, I'm sick, scared, and miserable. Now I get why some of my friends chose other colleges - at least they're not dealing with this mess.

I don't know what to do anymore. This place feels toxic, and I'm seriously thinking about transferring. I never thought I'd say this, but I regret coming here.

Please, if anyone in charge is reading this, do something. We're really struggling, and it feels like no one cares.

I get how you feel; I am a fellow first-year only. But the thing that you need to understand is that this is just your first sem. Give the place some time. It will surely surprise you in a good way. As for the freshers and garba thing, even our seniors had their freshers cancelled, ig it was the third or the fourth year. And politics in student bodies is pervasive, so the possibility of the Garba not being as big an event should only bother you if you are in SAC because then it's your lookout. Otherwise, you are here to study; freshers and Garba should not affect you as much as they are. Online bullying is happening for the first time in the uni; it is because of our batch. We need to tackle that batchmate independently with the admin's support. The hygiene and sanitation issues are genuine and need to be looked into by the admin; we need a more significant voice (which the admin will hear) with some real solutions. Sending us home cannot be a solution.

Can you find a state NLU that is NOT toxic?

- Suicides in NLUD

- VC intruding into girls' hostel in RGNUL

- Gujarat HC issue with GNLU

- Sexual misconduct in NLS
- Politics, and dress code issues in WBNUJS

- Ragging and bullying are common

- Irregular faculty salaries in MNLU-N

- Admin apathy, no funding, corruption, entitled students, creaking infrastructure in all NLUs

The list goes on. In fact on this platform, the dire situation is underplayed and many posts are not published or marked trollish.

GNLU (like all NLUs) is a state university. This is the best you can get. Thank your stars because Gujarat as a state is doing OK economically. Imagine the plight of students studying in poor states like UP (Pragraj and Lucknow), Bihar (Patna), Chattisgarh (Raipur), Odisha (Cuttack), Rajasthan (Jodhpur), Jharkhand (Ranchi), Assam (Guwahati) and MP (Jabalpur).

Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you... India. One of the only countries in which a comment saying "Be thankful for something, even if it destroys your life, because there is nothing better" is considered acceptable. This is worse than the stereotype of the Russian negativity outlook. Truely, if this comment is representative of our national way of thinking, may the lord have mersy on our souls.

To the First-Years: A Reality Check from Your Super Senior

It seems some of you are quite entitled, so let me clear a few things up for you:

1. The millipede issue is a regional problem affecting Gujarat, not just GNLU. This phenomenon occurs occasionally, and there’s not much the university can do about it. In previous years, it hasn’t been as bad, but unfortunately, your batch seems to be the unlucky ones. Entire villages in the area have had to evacuate due to these millipedes.

Understand that the university has limited control over such natural occurrences

2. I’m not sure which floor you're staying on, but the housekeeping staff cleans every floor four times a day. Plus, you can request additional room cleaning whenever you want. Water coolers and RO systems are available on every floor—I’ve been drinking the same water for four years and have never fallen ill. Fogging is done twice a week to control mosquitoes. Dengue is a nationwide issue right now; beyond a point, it's your responsibility to take precautions. Maybe stay in your rooms and focus on studying instead of wandering around campus all the time.

3. Your Freshers' event was canceled because of your batch's behavior. Many first-years have been caught smoking weed or drinking alcohol, even after repeated warnings from the wardens and professors. Also, considering the semester is almost over, hosting Freshers' now is logistically impossible. But don't worry—Garba will be in full swing soon. Focus on your CETs for once.

4. College isn’t just about making friends and having fun. It’s about education and hard work—something your batch seems to have forgotten. You're spending more time on Instagram than focusing on your studies. GNLU is one of the most relaxed NLUs. There’s minimal academic pressure, and the administration gives you a lot of freedom. There are barely any hostel curfews, and numerous events and conferences are held regularly, yet you don’t seem interested in attending anything educational.If you’re finding it hard to survive at GNLU, maybe you should consider transferring to a local university because NLUs might not be the right fit for you. Schools like NLUJ, NLS, NALSAR, and NUJS have far tougher curriculums and fewer resources than we do. GNLU is one of the richest NLUs—you have vending machines installed everywhere, a metro just outside the campus, GIFT City nearby, a three floor library. You get access to pretty much everything. No other college offers such a combination of resources and a laid-back administration.

It’s high time you guys concern yourselves about what is more important. With the kind of attitude and work ethic you guys have shown so far, I’d be surprised if most of you manage to clear your first semesters tbh.

Ignore this idiot who has put up a delusional essay with full confidence (which by the way is a hallmark of many overconfident kids with 0 substance you'll encounter in this college) including em dashes and whatnot implying it's an individual's fault for falling sick or contracting dengue despite living in clearly insanitary conditions that anyone who's ever been to the BH can tell.

1/3 of the hostel's residents contracting dengue reflects entirely on the conditions of the hostel and not the 1/3 affected crowd. The water further is known to make many sick which is why some kids avoid using hostel RO water entirely.

The feeling that no one cares is very true especially when you first arrive. Try making some decent friends to remedy this, even though most of the people here are fake, just having some good company helps. Stay focused on your academics and you'll no doubt have good prospects waiting by the time you're through.

You sound like an extremely entitled person. All the problems you mentioned form a miniscule percentage of your 5 year long experience, and as pointed out in another response here- some of these problems are natural, and multiple batches have survived these issues by using simple measures like keeping their rooms clean and using mosquito coils. You are living on campus at a time where Mcdonald's, metro, GIFT City and major establishments are at a walking distance for you. Your super seniors have experienced barren Lands that had nothing except antelopes and monitor lizards on the roads, and a warm Maggi was a boon- nearest establishments were 3-5 kms away.

Alternative options for you- retake the exams and go to Jiggles/SLS to meet like minded folk
