Gen Y uncle here. I think (know for a fact) its perfectly cool to (1) ask intern for help on a Saturday. I know the power dynamics argument - that she will not say no to me. But guess what, I had work, which required an intern to pull through, and couple of them did, with out whining like you. They will get credit for it, ofc. (2) its ok to speak rudely when its warranted. This one intern literally pulled a 'tumko malum hai mai kiska beta' on office staff who asked him to not speak loudly everyday. Guess what I did? Ask around - it got famous. And I will do it again. No one walks over my staff. Period. (3) this memes thing is pretty specific. Plus I dont have that kind of connect with my interns yet. But I will meme, so long as the intern is cool with it, and maintain professional boundaries, otherwise it will make my office a very boring place. (4) Not sure what gendered language means, but I am fairly certain I am doing it within the team. We are very close, work 10-12 hours together every day, and share stuff. (5) I dont even want to get started on jokes - you will be horrified by the sick jokes we do in team. Lets just say - 'langde ko langda nai to kya andha bolenge' does not even qualifies.

You son seem to have been hurt. Please complain about it. My whole rant was about it - no one should be scared of anyone and feel free to speak their mind.

So long as you are at the mercy of those 'uncles' and keep begging them to secure such internships, they can pretty much do whatever they want. Interns can be called to work 7 days a week. If you don't like that, then don't intern at such places. "If it were US" - but it isn't. You are free to go there if you so choose. You don't get to dictate what emojis one may use on Whatsapp or any other forum, not to uncles and not to anyone else. If you have a problem with gendered language, then don't use it yourself.
