Exactly. Also, you can't have seen the LOR. It needs to be given in secret. At least many UK unis do not accept so-called 'open references'.

position does not matter, focus more on how well the person knows you and how well they can vouch for your abilities

it has to be personal, try to ask the referee to provide an anecdote that will align with your sop or one of the values/criteria that the LLM wants

Too many people have LoRs from HC and SC judges. By itself, it isn't of much use. Depends on your other creds as well.

I think it depends on how the LOR is written. Even an HC Judge's LOR has much value

I have received a LOR from the Calcutta HC Judge. Is it sufficient to help me with LLM, or is a LOR from the Supreme Court Judge required? Do universities offering LLM outside prefer LOR of SC Judge over HC Judge?
