Last Sept, I went through a difficult breakup, and I’m still working through it with therapy and medication. On top of that, my parents keep pressuring me to get married, which only adds to the stress.
I had always thought that if neither law firms nor in-house roles worked out, or if the UPSC didn’t pan out, I’d write the MP Judiciary exam and settle my career uncertainty (seemed doable to me). But with the recent changes in MP Judiciary’s eligibility criteria, I no longer qualify as I don’t have 70% marks or 3 years of continuous practice. While I could attempt MPPSC Civil Services, the timing and results are too unpredictable.
Now, I’ve reached a point where I’m exhausted from making decisions. The only thing I’m certain of is that I want to be in government service- not because I don’t want to work, but because I want to step out of this endless cycle of applying for jobs, chasing increments, promotions, and so on. I no longer want to be in a constant race. Considering how things work in India, I also want to have some level of power to support myself and my family. Over the past 4 years, I’ve seen how, without some form of authority, people can easily be taken advantage of.
It feels like I haven’t made a single decision that’s truly worked out for me. Right now, I’m looking at these options:
1. UPSC 2025 – Give it one more shot.
2. MPPSC 2025 – I’ve attempted it before and missed the prelims cutoff by just 2 marks (one question). I did this based on my upsc prep and spending about 10 days on MP-specific topics.
3. I love Gurgaon for some reason, so I could write HPSC 2025, though I’d need to focus on Haryana-specific content.
4. Judicial Service Exams- Since MP is no longer an option, I could aim for Delhi or Haryana Judiciary.
Alternatively, I could let go of the idea of government service and:
5. Get a law firm job.
6. Find an in-house counsel role.
Please be kind.
