(2) Perception issue is going to be there even for seniors, when they've been assisting from client side. Taking this further, there can't be a candidate for AG/SG/ASG because they all would have appeared for private parties against Government. (3) While tradition is one thing, domain knowledge is equally important now. Businesses have grown much more complex and issues are more nuanced. What you need are judges who can understand them, and such understanding is not necessarily with the senior advocates. Law firm partners deal with these things much more closely and have good grasp.

Secondly, I'm not sure about your background but all the skills which you mentioned are needed to succeed in law firm also, presence of mind while negotiating transaction documents (which is quite acrimonius at times, to put it mildly and also running for hours at a time, as opposed to only two hours sessions in courts), lit lawyers also appear in courts even though they aren't designated so have these skills and so do people in arbitration.
