If youre gonna make it a numbers game, JGLS will always win. They have more everything, more students, more faculty, more money. Where they might be losing is not having better, better students, better faculty, better reputation, all of that.

How many out of those 300 plus faculty do you think are delivering passable to good courses in teaching and evaluation?

If BITS is offering a lower salary, then that strengthens the point that profs prioritise location quality, admin quality and student quality over money. When Rajkumar set up JGLS, he got good NLU alumni faculty because there was no alternative to JGLS, i.e. NLUs were filled with corrupt and mediocre VCs who deliberately shunted out alumni and others with good qualifications from teaching (case in point: Ishwar Bhat of NUJS). Sudhir has changed that culture by recruiting NLU alumni en masse, while BITS and NLU are doing the same: all 3 in better locations. If NALSAR and NLUD get good VCs and management, you will see JGLS faculty leave for NALSAR and NLUD as well.

Agree 100%. One has to be really foolish to choose some obscure location like Sonepat (in Haryana) over Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, and even Chennai. Sonepat is Haryana, Sonepat is NOT Delhi. Haryana has a 'reputation' it cannot shake off. A lesser-known fact - if one has an HR-registered car in Bangalore, 99% of the time it will be checked by traffic police for thuggery and drunk driving. They pick on HR-registered vehicles for special treatment.

Two reasons:

1. The salaries offered by SNU and BITS are comparable but even if not, and even if one takes a steep cut and goes to NLSIU, it’s so much better to live in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai etc than Jagdishpur village in Haryana. That place is a dump! No good hospitals, schools, restaurants or malls nearby. Dark roads. And very unsafe for both women! Full of drunken thugs and goons. You need to live like a bird in a gilded cage, staying confined inside campus and your accommodation. Yes, Delhi is a 1.5 hour drive away, but so what? So You can’t travel that distance everyday.

2. Jindal students are not the only ones who pay high fees. So do students at ISB, private medical colleges and private engineering colleges. Even Ashoka, Manipal etc. But the students at Jindal are extremely spoilt, arrogant, and disrespectful to faculty. The thuggish ones act that way because they are from families that have money but no culture, treating everyone poorer than them with scorn. The woke ones act that way because they view teachers imposing discipline as “fascist oppressors”.

The names of those who left for NLSIU are on the NLSIU website, so no question of doxxing. Some also left for BITS Mumbai. Names are on their website as well.

I think location. quality of students and quality of management play a big part. Forget NLSIU and look at BITS. I have heard that, apart from being in a good location in Mumbai, BITS has a management that takes academics seriously and the students are not bratty. Because that was the culture set from the beginning and the students and parents were apparently told that you cannot behave in an entitled manner because you are paying high fees. This is just what I heard.

Remember that, unlike Naveen Jindal, the Birla family has a history of running educational institutions: BITS Pilani is among the top engineering institutions, while you also have BITS Goa and various smaller vocational colleges.

5. Because Rajkumar's style of functioning is non-transparent

6. Because some unpopular professors at JGLS have got too much power and are calling the shots

Because Jindal is tilting to the right and marginalising the left: e.g. expansion only in STEM from now on; new engineering and medical schools coming up; right-wing research centres being set up; more emphasis on corporate/commercial than public law law; human rights conferences and projects being branded by admin as woke and not receiving budgetary approval etc.
