Has this also changed their ideological positions, specifically the CAA? I can't comment on that. But I can guarantee that they will examine such issues with a calmer and more patient head than when they did in law school. And I can also guarantee that they won't tell Jagdeep Dhankar to F off if he pays a visit to the CAM or SAM office. 😜
1. Non-Muslims face widespread and systematic persecution in these countries. This is an indisputable fact that can be proved with tons of evidence.
2. Muslims who face persecution in the above countries usually do so not by virtue of their religious belief but by virtue of their political beliefs, eg Baluchis in Pakistan, Northern Alliance supporters in Afghanistan etc. They can still apply for Indian citizenship, but will be given second preference in the waiting list. The reason is simple: they can apply to dozens of other Islamic countries, but there are only two Hindu-majority countries in the world: India and Nepal.
3. The CAA doesn’t mean that Muslims will be turned away at the border, as long as they apply for refuge in the proper way. Many Muslim Afghan refugees live in India because they applied through the proper channel. In contrast, Rohingyas and Bangladeshis who have illegally settled here have being deported.
5. Remember also that India is not a signatory to the UN Refugee Convention. The Congress took this decision, not Modi. And despite that we have given refuge to many people, such as Tibetans.
This is all the CAA does and it’s 100% logical. Look at the West: they are taking so many Ukrainian refugees at the expense of Palestinians.They also deport many Muslim migrants who did not apply legally for asylum. Why don’t you all condemn them for that? Everyone is a saint and only Modi is a devil, is it?
